Hi Nifty, yes it has been a long time since I have been on here. I have some updates. The Farm has grown since my last post. I currently only have two Dexter's since one is currently at freezer camp. The other two are new. One is a bull for breading and the other for beef. I lost my cow to cancer on Father's Day and currently looking for a new breeder. I currently also have 25 meat birds, 25 layers, 2 pigs for meat (both sold) and one goose. The bee hives are almost ready to get my honey and hoping for a 60-70# yield. I was able to sell off the horse since my daughter no longer rides so the feed bill is greatly reduced. I get my first steer back from the butcher tomorrow. Sold one half to a friend of mine. Hope everyone else is doing well. Blessings to ALL!

Thanks for checking in! We had to sell the farm/homestead when I got sick last fall. We moved back in with our sons and I just have 3 ducks and my fish. I’m active again on BYC but hadn’t logged in much over here.
So sorry to hear that! I hope your health improves. Is staying with your son a long term plan or just temporary?

Hello all!

After being widowed for a while, I married another animal nut. Both of us have a problem saying no when someone wants to give us an animal.

We had 8 goats, 4 horses, 2 mini horses (one born here), a mini donk, a 130 lb Sulcata tortoise, 7 dogs, 4 cats, an Amazon parrot, and 7 aquariums.

I saw an add on Craigslist about a guy selling calves for $25. Of course, I told Hubby I had to have one. He gave me a reasonable song and dance on how that would be more and different feed, vet bills, and he would have to make a new abode. I reluctantly agreed with him. Good thing since I have since learned that those little calves were pulled from their moms at birth and would probably die from not getting colostrum.

Fast forward a few months: A friend called in a frenzy saying she had to find a home for her pot-bellied pig as her landlord had sold the house she was living in. I gave her the same speech Hubby had given me over the $25 calves. As soon as I hung up, my husband sullenly tells me, "I want a pig."

So after building a yard complete with a pig palace, we have the ugliest, yet sweetest pig. And I have Cecil, a "miniature" Jersey who at 800 lbs or so lives in a 60 ft roundpen with an attached cow cabin. The love we give and get from these two is a dream come true!

Oh, and Hubby also built a gorgeous chicken abode!

Let's hear it for couples who have the same animal addictions!
