Thanks for reaching out, Nifty! Not much going on out here in the country life. Getting the garden ready for planting.

I recently found out that the County passed an ordinance on chickens - I will have to read it closer, but I think I am now in non-compliance and am at risk of getting citations and fines. I heard that a number of people have been fined already.

According to a friend, the new ordinance is limiting non-commercial FOWL ownership to 8 birds. Chicken, duck and quail only allowed and a total of 8 combined and no roosters. They published the notice somewhere, don't know where because I couldn't find anything on-line about it until the Sunday before. And they held the meeting at 10 am on Monday - I work 8-5 so I couldn't go anyway.

The odd thing is that the paragraph above states that limitation says that I am allowed Animal units equivalent to acres - such as 1.5 Animal Units for a cow = you need 1.5 acres to own a cow and 3 acres for 2 cows. Chickens are 0.01 animal units per acre. Meat chickens are 0.001 animal units per acre.

Hi ya'll. :frowI still poke my head in the forums from time to time when I have a question or to use the search function. Life has just been so busy. My email is real backed up, so it's a wonder I saw this. I've got a herd of 22 goats, 1 4-H fair lamb and countless chickens. We HAD ducks, but they decided they didn't love us and flew away. 😅 Still gardening and saving seeds. Got out of honey bees though. If it will let me, I'll link my Instagram for farm pics... brightnbeautifulacres

Thanks Nifty! My husband and I are living our dream in New Mexico. Our flock of hens is producing enough eggs to (mostly) pay for their feed. My husband is an expert at wrangling rattlesnakes out of the coop. Finally achieved my it’ll-never-happen when we adopted a horse 2 years ago. He needed a buddy so we adopted a goat. Built a greenhouse out of salvaged materials. And what started out looking like a moon crater with a house in it (building on raw land leaves scars) is now starting to look like an intentional established homestead. Dreams can come true.

Thanks for reaching out! My life has changed drastically since I made this account. I worked with cattle from 2022-2023. I don’t work with them anymore and my only pets are a rabbit and a pigeon. Still love all the herd creatures. Hoping to get my gardens back up and running soon.

Some cattle pictures for you all (I have a ton more if anyone’s interested)
