Robbing can be a big problem to a small hive.
Mother Nature is not kind. Even the same species will prey upon each other.
I usually have entrance reducers to give the little hive a smaller opening to defend. I couldn't find the new ones so I shoved some hay in the entrance. I'll see if putting some more sugar water out AWAY from that hive will help also. Although like I said, it was the same sugar water that had been sitting out for a month in a quart chicken waterer.

Bee's are not normally very active until 10. The one hive is already getting attacked before 8. I pulled the little entrance feeder out and there came a roar of buzzing. I went to the other 4 hives and the only one active was the one that little split came from.

It was a sad evening yesterday at the CLS ranch. We took the kids fishing/splashing yesterday under a bridge at a local creek/fishing hole. While trying to teach the kids to swim the oldest boys dog had run up on the bridge and got hit. I guess he's seen enough things die around here that he didn't seem bothered by it. I think I was more upset for him, than he was. (and I never really liked that dog :hide and he didn't like me)
Still needing some rain. It's gotten to where spreading a tank 100yds then moving over 10', then another 10' isn't doing anything. I've switched to just cracking the valve and putting an old, busted lick tub under it and letting it all drain out in o ne spot, then move over 20' and do another. If you think about it 250 gallons isn't much. How long does it take to fill a 200 gal stock tank and how long do you leave a sprinkler on. I have to do the garden 8 hrs to not keep watering every day. Still watering some daily by hand.
There's still bee's in the new splits, just hope they make a queen and she makes a successful mating flight. I won't know for another 3 weeks and I won't be home, so I won't know until ?????

Sorry about the dog. Regardless the connection, it was part of the farm.

Wish I could share the rain!! We've been getting more than norm and I've been in the toooo little situation of drought, so know the devastation. Hope it rains for you soon.

Ah geeze - sorry about the dog. Some we like better than others but that doesn't make it any easier.
Hope you get some rain.

Even though it was not your favorite animal, still sad for the family and the dog.

Watering is just a difficult situation no matter what you do.

Are you leaving for a job???? You said you won't be there to check on the bees... Hope that the queen does her thing and your hive gets stronger... I would like to find a bee keeper that needs a place to put a hive and have one here for the garden and couple of peach trees....and next years fruit trees that I really hope get moved here this winter....

@farmerjan I got a few leads. Didn't call one early last week in NE once my truck started running again, after finding out about one 35mins from me. He said come in and apply Fri. I was 20 min early then called and left after 50 mins. I got fuel in the truck, washed and tried to waste time, went back to the shop still nobody. He called after I got back home. He forgot to tell me they were taking a long weekend. They put out adds needing welders, but he said they're just taking apps right now, but will be needing welders in a couple of weeks. The guy in NE was out of the office for the holiday weekend too.
But several opportunities now, that's more than a few hours here and there for neighbors.
