Those California rain floods are devastating!

Yeah, news is on TV.
Yup they are. Paso Robles - great wine area - has some new waterfalls (and ruined roads). It’s bad in central CA. I was chatting with a friend (lives nearby) and we both agree that if CA had set up water storage and flood control/routing things wouldn’t be as bad. We have dams that are falling apart that nothing has been done to fix them - and because they are crumbling they can’t hold water and everything that is coming down is flowing right through. Ag could use that water. But ag is always forgotten.

Good morning! I woke up at 1:30. I hate it when I do that. I snuck out of the bedroom and closed the door. Must not wake the baby lamb! Her new family is going to pick her up today. We are going to splint her front lags per advice from @Margali . I massaged and stretched her legs last night. The tendons are tight. She will be lavished with love and care, I’m happy about that.
Therapy this morning. I’m sore from sheep therapy yesterday! Trimming feet, bent over, climbing in and out of hog panel chutes. Hog panels are just high enough that I can’t straddle them. Good knee is sore, probably twisted it.
Full day ahead, if I run out of things to do, I have a bunch of fecal samples to examine. It’s a sh!tty job but somebody’s gotta do it!

Good morning all!! Merry Christmas and Happy New year to everyone!!

Two cups in and there's definitely a third in the works.

So far 2023 has been ok-yes, just ok-so busy and trying to organize ourselves after 2022's crazy expenses and all the chaos. So far I'm feeling the winter darkness pretty hard-I need to live somewhere that I'm not freezing if I want to get outside! I think I'm just feeling my age and THAT is certainly not going to get better. :th

I start school in two and a half weeks, I think I'm stressing about that-I hope when all is said and done, I can find a good job. DS3 has finally finished applying to colleges, so now we wait on that. If he gets accepted into the colleges that he applied to, except one of them, he'll be away from home-the first one to not attend a local college. DH thinks it's wonderful-I'm ready to throttle DH. :hide

Today we're heading into the city...I HATE the city. Honestly, the city is why DH and I broke up 30 years ago-he wanted to live there (actually needed to for work) and I am a country mouse, so I chose peace. He's since seen the error of his ways,:gig but he's prancing around like a carriage horse because he loves the city, and enjoys showing it to me. I only get in there about once every few months, so he's over the moon this morning. We're staying the night in an ultra modern hotel, and I'm bracing myself for sharp edges and odd looking rooms. He understands how much I dislike all the crowds and the insane prices of everything, so he's really happy I've agreed to go with him. He's a good man, and does love living where we do, so I need to get out of my January gloom and enjoy it with him.

DS2 is down with the flu, he's been driving my Toyota Rav into the city where he works and neglected to tell me about tickets he's gotten...and that my registration is expired so the car was towed-I have to call the impound about him picking it up when he feels better. The city is apparently pretty stringent about that stuff so I'm not looking forward to seeing how much it's going to cost me to redeem my car.

Christmas Day was interesting as well-we ran out of oil. It was 9 degrees outside so we sat in front of the fire wearing all our new clothes. :thumbsup I'm sure that we've learned and will be checking the oil level constantly.

The chickens (old and young) are nicely hayed-each coop got a full bale to cuddle up in, and DS3 made some warm oatmeal with fruit for them to feast on yesterday. Happy girls out there! Goat yard plans are getting sketched out, and a few visits to my neighbors goat pen has helped with planning. I left with good advice and a few cuddles from her ducks.
I hope everyone has a great day!

Skipped the oatmeal and opted for fresh grapefruit from a neighbor - YUM. Finishing up the cup. Rain gauge says 3/4 inch. There were some big gully washers for a bit.
Skipping grazing this morning - though it's crisp and clear - managed to grab a chiro appointment for Obi this morning. Lucky dog! Put yesterday's rainy day to good use - went to a cheese shop near the coast and stocked up.
Hope my rant on being prepared for rain did not come off as uncaring. I pray those in the flood areas will be ok.
Yes, it's horrendous. My rant is on the gov, not the people who are suffering.

I don’t understand government shortsightedness and we have it here in Texas too. All the overreach into people’s lives and oblivious to maintaining infrastructure, power and water. We all need to plan for the “help is not coming”
scenario.

I have successfully wasted an entire day. Did nothing meaningful outside beyond feeding. :idunno no guilt. I rested. 😁

Did order a few things online, milk filters, antibiotics, needle & syringes, milk cultures....yeah, needed to do, restful work that I can stop thinking about now. Downloaded some tax docs, and straightened my desk. 👍

Maybe I'll sleep better now. 🤔. Everyone is fed, coops closed, waters filled. Another 10 egg day! 😁. You go girls!
