As to frostbite.... I don't think it is a risk at all.Not presently but I can build something or bring him in overnight. I thought he wanted to retire and had him in the house. Then we moved and he apparently discovered the fountain of youth in the lower pasture. Lost weight, took on patrolling again and can he ever polish off a bowl of food. Plus yesterday the formerly aloof LGD stole my shoe and pranced around daring me to get it back.
Edit: I didn’t get it back. Had to fool him with food bowl.
With leghorns, huge single combs... they did NOT get frostbite, even with temps going into the negatives.
Along the fold line they got some sores that healed just fine.
It was my chickens with single combs and the thin edges that stuck up into the air, that would get frostbite, die, and fall off. (The comb edges died... not the chickens)
So... one small bare spot, on a fuzzy dog... I don't see a problem.
