Got the 6 others quartered. Didn't debone, water was being used to fill troughs.

Redid my cage chart. Wanting to cull more out, but need to update charts first to compare.

Oct 10th
Been thinking of moving the buns in here since last year. Unused space.
Started to clean it up.
Looks like all of the regular stackers will fit, then I'd have to decide what to do with the odd ones. Some I can piece together to stack, others I might sell to potentially buy a stacker to fit.
Door and wall may flip sides in the end.
But first, I need to find a way to seal up the silo!!
Pigeons fill it with poop, nature fills it with rain & snow. Once sealed, I'll add a little heater to help keep it above freezing so water stays liquid. Like in my previous barn-shed years ago. I hate dealing with frozen water & dragging new water around in winter.

Not sure if I'm doing the math right, but I'm going to switch to 16% vs 18%. I believe this is how much I'll save per order.

I used to buy 20 bags when they were 50# each. Now they're 40#, so I buy 30 bags at a time. But if I switch to 16%, it's sold in 50# bags, so I'll probably go back to 20 bags.

$17.49÷40#=
$0.43725 per pound.

$18.39÷50#=
$0.3678 per pound.

0.43725×50#=
$21.8625 for 50 pounds.

21.8625-18.39=
$3.4725 per bag difference.

Buy 20 bags, save $69.45.
Buy 30 bags, save $104.175.

I seem to buy 3 times a year, roughly. So, yearly savings of either one below.
208.35
312.525

And I'm hoping that I can decide on a few adults to cull out, further reducing costs.

Oct 11th
Ordered adjustable water nipples. Not seeing any change in flow. Wtf.
Got clamps as well for the ones that seem to leak at the connection.

Oct 12th
And some culls moved & posted, plus one fed as breakfast.

Screenshot_20231120_195047_Chrome.jpg

Oct 13th
Weighed some more litters and removed the lightest ones.
And decided on 2 sisters. This one was worse than the other, so away she goes.
Sexed the other ones.

And that cute broken otter buck, he bit me, so he chose to be culled. :(
Pelt in freezer, going to try to save the feet.

Everyone is a little witchy today! But no one else bruised or broke skin, so I didn't cull them.
Moved Obscure to cull cage.
Removed Rusty to have a chat with her about attitude and posed her again.
Much nicer!

Posing some others. I think I need to let the Freckles rex go...

Hoping to keep this little blue otter buck kit. 🙂

Oct 17th
Moved Zero n kits to the stackers. And Lynx n kits to a stacker. The big cage will be taken down. The other cage will be stored for culls or sold. Shouldn't of bought those other cages, lol. Gotta down size!

Yep. Uncle watching the kids. Tiny escape artists. Lucky for them, he's the nice uncle.

Oct 19th
$597 in the red.
20 in poop sales & about 50 in dogfood meals makes it...

Currently $527 in the red.

Oct 20th
$527 in the red plus 4 buns sold at 80, makes it...

Currently $447 in the red.

Ivory buck, obscure doe, a broken black doe kit and a black buck kit off the feed bill.

Rex doe rescheduled for tomorrow pickup.

Leaves 5 culls left for the pup. Meanie still left to cull or eat.

One broken kit sold, other was to decide between them.

Broken blue otter's & lynx2.0's kits.
Screenshot_20231120_200216_Chrome.jpgScreenshot_20231120_200221_Chrome.jpg
Moved Obscure out, her replacement seemed lonely. Since 14's doe kit's brother was culled for biting, she was alone, too. Moved her in with Obscure's doe kit. Now they're friends and she's eating again.
35141-b7bae0abf722a37cf3c3fc5017f54ddc.jpeg

Played more musical cages after that. Figured out who was dumping the feed, Choco. So she was tossed out to her own cage.

$447 in the red. Plus 25 in bun sales of the lilac otter rex doe. Keeping the mutt half sister instead.

Currently $422 in the red.

These should be correctly marked...lol.
I need to make a version of this photo journal without any comments. Hard to keep track on just paper or here. 🫣

Closer to pure sf! All jumpy. Ugh. To repeat pairing in hopes of a doe or keep a buck as replacement. Hmmm
Screenshot_20231120_200554_Chrome.jpg

Black is biggest, but i like broken more. Could pair with the Freckles broken buck! Then cull both dams.
Screenshot_20231120_200721_Chrome.jpg

Oh no. I Fed up somewhere, as Zero had a rex furred kit....gotta double check again.
And 3 siblings to Vickie, the first Kitty replacement. Keep a buck or a doe...Vickie gets a nest on the 31st. Might keep none of these siblings if she does well with her first litter.

Oct 25th
Did some double checking, or maybe quadruple checking, through 2 phone callenders, the forum and my external hard drive that has all of the pics.

Then got weights, moved 3 to cull cage, as rest are now eaten. Quick look over of the juniors that were kept further helped figure out sires. One looks more like a cross by fur type, but everything else says there was just one sire for that litter. Though, that tracks, since both parents have the same sire, who had wrong fur type.

Posed quickly, not necessarily correctly, as weight and general ID was the goal.

Two bucks have some height to them! Huge improvement to the shape below them!

The wrong fur buck. Shape seems blah, too. But didn't check tops and butt views this time.

Oct 26th
Blackie's doe, Xoh, had her kits!
In the nest, fur n all. *phew* Xoh has 10 kits! Big litter, all fed, most are brokens. Can't wait to see what colors.

Since I need to make room, all of the cross kits need to go, right?
Listed, but I'll check weights to see if any stand out to hold back anyway.
Might have one to keep, might not.

Forgot to update name tags. 🤦🏽‍♀️ Walked down for it, totally got distracted and then walked back up the mountain without the cards. Lol

Oct 27th
14 had her kits! 8 of them.

I need to tattoo when I foster kits. Not possible for Zero's kit to be rex furred, and not poor quality fur at that. Kitty had a dark, pink eared kit, must be hers instead. 🤔
But it's 4.1.8 pounds! Others from Kitty are 2.11 to 2.15.5....So, can't be her kit. Wtf?? Where did the rex fur come from then? Zero's parents were Onyx & 3-5. Onyx was 14 & 3-5. No rex in there! 😵‍💫
I need parentage testing for rabbits. Is it really that different than sheep? Ugh.
How long can the rex fur gene hide for?? I'd guess buck 3-5 must of been mixed with rex, idk how else it's possible.

Anyway, now cards are done!
But it looks like I'm out of tag holders and clips...
35243-04321344452c5c037f0b347d3f500487.jpeg

How long can rex fur gene hide?
Apparently, forever.

Then, that means the 3-5 buck must be the culprit, he was reintroduced a few times, then a pure rex was added and *poof* rex kit!
🫠

Oct 29th
Got the tags done & hung.

Oct 29th
11 had her kits!!
1 fell out, had to heat it back up. 1 was doa. 8 live, I think, mom is protective.
Cinder/Swirl sires.

Xoh's kits, torts! Broken torts!
Swirl sire.

Oct 30th
Choco had 4 kits. 😑 Better than none, but what the heck.

Up n coming juniors, some already culled down to a keeper, most not.

Such 💩 like her mom!
Vicky, Kitty's replacement, using nest as toilet, didn't pull fur, then decided she was hungry and ate who knows how many of them! 🤬
Rebred, will be culled if she fails again.
Have her aunt who has raised a nice litter, but was hoping Vicky would be further to have a pedigreed litter now.
Found another kit under nest.
Screenshot_20231120_202909_Chrome.jpg

I'm getting tired of 11's aggression. I think she'll be culled/sold after this litter.
Screenshot_20231120_203011_Chrome.jpgScreenshot_20231120_203025_Chrome.jpg

Moved a bunch to the cull cage & listed them. Pup has not been happy to not get a happy breakfast this past week. Lol
All bucks except one.
Screenshot_20231120_203146_Chrome.jpg
Decided to move out 4 proven does, 3 young does. And need to pose 3 to decide if I really want to keep any or just cull them out as well. Too many to keep!

Compared the 3 junior does.
Going to list the black otter.

Which pose do you believe, though??
20231120_204052.jpg
More narrow shoulders and loin, so decided against this doe.
Screenshot_20231120_204004_Chrome.jpg

Nov 9th
Culled a bunch out!
Hides in freezer, rest waiting to be dog food.
Two juniors were given until their due dates. If they fail, cull. One older weaner doe moved back to mom to watch shape.
1 junior culled, 9 older weaners culled.

Freckles' doe, terrible shape, on her last chance. The other broken doe is also on her last chance.
Screenshot_20231120_204210_Chrome.jpg

Nov 10th
If I'm trying to keep the Freckles buck and fostered Kitty doe or buck, then I shouldn't keep the 2 older does, right? But I guess since they're already grown and in 30 days we'll have kits or not, I could wait. I have 4 proven does due around then. I could foster their kits over and cull the does out or just let them raise them for 4-5wks, then cull. Hmm...

Guess I'll wait. Choco will leave in a few more weeks & Meanie leaves this weekend, hopefully, making some space. Blue rex doe & sf11 will leave after kitting/weaning, too.

Nov 11th
Since I'm getting a new Rex doe, and buck, I don't really need to keep any back from current litters. Guess I'll see who is best and might just keep one or 2 of all the different ones. Still need some to cross with the better Rex. Just don't need one from each pairing now like before.

$422 in the red. Plus 25 in bun sale.

Currently $397 in the red.

Moved most of the cages to the corner of the barn.
I don't want to use the two 3 hole stackers, but seems I'll have to. Fix the floors and stick them on the ends. The 2hole I'll try to put above the 2 row stacker. Any other cages, same thing, I'll try to put them up above the other cages.
I'll bump out the wall a few feet, then enclose it. After that, cannot get more buns, lol.
Gotta finish before winter, so I can use a little heater to keep water from freezing.

New invaders to the buck's side.
Where'd the kits go?!? Oh, just to visit uncle...

Nov 17th
🤬 Managed to f up Lynx's due date. Lost all the kits.

The blue that I had moved back out of cull cage, I put back into cull cage.
The broken looks hideous. 4.5 pounds or so.
The black looks a bit better, 5 pounds.
Screenshot_20231120_204917_Chrome.jpg

Picking from the rex...
Slightly more open pattern, weighs a bit more and I think has a better shape, slightly. Or does the other look better? Ugh, idk....
The buck isn't great, so no longer keeping him.
35454-0680604e8f2f8224b5f3d07fe1bc30ea.pngScreenshot_20231120_205035_Chrome.jpg

Still waiting on the black sf in cull cage to finish silvering before culling him. There's 2-3 others to cull, plus the 2 from today. And 3 more if I can decide on which is better....One from the Freckles pair of brothers I need to decide on.

Got 4 culled.
Blue left to silver out with the black one.
Moved the broken buck of the 2 that was a cull. Put the blue otter rex back. I have lots of sf bucks, but no rex bucks. So, decided to keep him, too.

The 2 bucks. Left has better profile, but right has better top and rear photos. Better loin and shoulders more broad. And his silvering is coming in.
Kept the one on the right.
35466-3871d49c7b6eb1cf6c628a9c93422c99.png

And the buck/doe siblings. Keeping both.

Silvering on the torts. Most pics I find of silvered torts, it's really hard to see the silvering.

Doe. Lighter on the silvering and harder to see.

Buck, heavier silvering, easier to see.

Only two are bucks in this litter!

Looks like it'll be a freezing winter....ugh. Getting the walls up asap. Water freezes every night.
Noticeably warmer already!
But need to move in the last buns and add to door/wall.
Close ceiling beams, close gable type end, enclose water bin and open it to the room, eventually stuff wool into the bags in the pallets.

Only 5 of 14s kits have lived. Idk wtf went wrong this time. 💩 certainly is hitting the fan, and the walls and floor and everything else.

Got everybun except 2 in the closed area of the barn!
Technically have a split cage that the last two could go into, but don't have a pan for one half of it.
So, they're outside hooked up to the mini auto water.
Added a 3rd light, too.

Black sf buck, he's refusing to breed. So, I'm trying to get him interested again before caving in and culling a 3rd pedigreed sf buck! 🤬🤬🤬😭🤞

Three culls. Waiting on silvering to finish, then they'll go or sell before then.

$397 in the red plus 10 in bun sales.
Currently $387 in the red.

Got 3 does bred, all lifting sky high. One was Unity, she was supposed to kindle, but using nest as toilet, so put her with a buck.

Freckles × Cinder
Unity × Rivian
Vickie × Baymax

Waiting on Darkie & Rusty to kindle. Then Freckles' doekit.
Next week, bluerex & Darkie's doekit.
Following, lynxmutt doe, Lynx & Zero.

The sf buck that has been refusing to breed finally got the job done, 5×! Had to put him in solitary, far away from the rest, and he's now willing to breed again. 🤦🏽‍♀️

I heard the other day that the rex buck is now 5 pounds!
