Slow production is how I do it.
Once a day for a week.
Once every other day for a week.
At that point, I get tierd of fooling around with it and I might try it a few dats later, but by that point they are done.
Having said that, it won't hurt to just stop all together. A doe will be full for a few days, but after that, it's over. They will dry up as quick as they came in...

It will be fine.
Just think of how you are helping her body build itself rather than pouring all her energy into milk!! Does that help?

Just a thought.....more of a question....my doe gives less milk on grass hay than on alfalfa hay, so wouldn't it be a good idea to switch to "poorer" hay for a couple of weeks while drying them off? :hide

thanks everybody!

i just gave her the grain ration in her stall and she didnt even look up at me again - so much for the sad looks!

and she tends to like the grass hay anyway - unlike my Saanen who digs on the alfalfa. my big goofy white goat is at the breeders for the winter so we already switched to the grassy hay for the lamancha.

and my little mini-macha is the happiest girl ever...she's getting the grain ration to build her up when she goes for her 'date' next month.

golly - do you think they'll want pickles and ice cream or some crazy thing??

;-)

i have to admit that i've been getting up early to do the morning milking....

building her up..i'm building her up.....
