1. If I find something interesting in a thread that is actually about another subject, can I start a thread that includes that or is that stealing? i.e. Stubbornhill has a thread about her pigs last summer and SOMEONE (not me!) got off onto a bacon discussion that I'd love to see in a butchering/bacon recipes. And Lothriel had a thyme concoction she recommended for pneumonia that I would like to include in a natural remedy thread. Would you ask the poster permission? Link it?

2. If I started a thread (natural remedies, for instance) that nobody but me seemed interested in, am I then just using BYH as a personal filing system or is it okay?

1. Yes, you can start another thread about it. It is actually better that way because people reading the subject line would know they might be interested in it. I would copy in the info with who the poster was and link to the original thread.

2. You don't know no one else is interested unless you post the thread. Even then, people may read it, but not reply, so I say, go ahead.

I read many things without replying, and I find myself going back into a thread to find something.
There are many times where someone may ask a question and another will post a link to where they can find the info.

I have no cattle, no pigs, no llamas or alpacas, no rabbits, no horses, donkeys or mules but I still love to look through and learn what I can.

What is the natural remedies link?

See...this is how we get off topic. ;)

I'm sure I was in on the bacon conversation.. I seem to get involved in most of the pig/bacon conversations, rashers to be correct. I think your idea is stupendous...

Sounds good to me. Especially as we get on a tangent - some data I later want is actually an unrelated thread!
