I haven't been doing much, NOTHING , all day. I was actually chilly... yeah, fever thing, but not near like last night. So I put on a long sleeved T-shirt (yeah, 78 degrees at 2 p.m.) and felt better. Been watching a few movies...
Sadly, did not find the 2 calves and both cows are totally dried up... no udders, so since the last time DS was there and actually checked them, and said there were all 11 calves there... several weeks ago ?... they lost them I guess... there are coyotes there.... I guess I am going to have to go to pastures once a week and do head counts... he had started back to doing that.... but now with things changed in his personal life again... things are not getting done..... nothing new...
No more comments.
Have had a headache most all afternoon to go along with this "bug" but still feel alot better than last night.
Got another gallon of tea made and in the fridge...
Going to to find something for some supper.... then sit through another movie... couple I am putting in the box with yard sale stuff... had really wanted to do that this fall but not going to happen now... I am just not put together enough for it at this point.
DS went with the "sister" and the 2 girls to a flea market today and had offered to take some spider plants... sold a few so that was good.... I had put them down on the ground by the car yesterday eve and they survived the horrible wind and all.... he picked them up sometime early this morning I guess... brought me back what he didn't sell... few extra bucks in the pocket...
Nose is running so that is good... more of an old fashioned cold; I can deal with that...
@farmerjan I am so sorry to hear you are so sick. Wish I lived closer to help with your clean up. It sounds like the storm was worse for you than what I had. I had another storm yesterday afternoon but it wasn't as bad the storm the other day.
Shame about the lost calves. Were they that small for coyotes to take down with mothers around? Coyotes here seldom run in packs large enough to take down cattle. Only time was just after the fires when eveything was out of sync due to burned areas and starving coyotes.
I'm guessing on the calves... one was the youngest.... the other was not. There have been several bear sightings around and they normally do not bother the cattle.... doesn't matter, they are gone and that is the end of that.
Had a little sun but mostly clouds, a couple showers... 63 -82 so decent temps. Head has been stuffy, nose running with taking the decongestant... little headache all day...typical cold situation....
Been watching some movies, one good one was "the Coach".... and a Nicholas Sparks one "the Choice.".....NO ENERGY to much of anything... Also "Wish you well"....
I am going in to go to bed early again... I wind up, getting up several times to make trips to the bathroom so not very good night sleeps.....and some coughing.... soooo aggravating... but I am trying to do little or nothing so I can rest and get my strength back sooner...
This da#@ed cold WILL RUN ITS COURSE by Saturday... I demand it.... that is MY DAY OFF - AWAY - period end of story.
Cool 60 this morning. Sun has been out hit mid 80's I would guess...
Next door neighbor with the Christmas tree lot had his bulldozer out and pulled the huge pine that came down onto the electric netting around the garden... it was on his side of the fence although they are right on the fenceline pretty much. came over and roots out of the ground. No damage to the fence... he pulled it right back his way and it slid right off and didn't make a mess.... He also lost a couple more, closer over on his side that I hadn't seen.... and a couple tops.... I asked him if he thought we should take down the other 2 that are closest to the line... he is going to take out 2 other dead ones there in that little grove of trees closest to the driveway that goes into the Christmas tree farm. So, we'll see.
That rain/wind/HAIL that came down that Friday night, has pretty much destroyed what was left of the garden. Most of the sunflowers were bent over at the ground from the wind... the hail shredded the leaves of the ones that are still upright. The butternut squash plants are all dead and the summer squash that I thought I might get a few more out of are dead also. Did a number on the tomato plants... I need to get out and pick and get some done up. In a couple of days I will hopefully feel more like going out and "working" more... I broke a sweat not doing much at all out there for 1/2 hour...
I want to take the walk behind weed eater in the garden, cut off the weeds so I can then go down through the rows and dig some potatoes without fighting all the overgrown weeds. All the plants have died off now....
I rolled up the soaker hoses and got the live trap to take to doug's barn as DS has something getting into the feed cans and making a mess there... ground hog or raccoons... told him he can take the traps to use there, as I don't need them in the garden anymore. They are his traps... he backed over my one trap and it was a heavier duty one than these and I have not been able to find a replacement for it... that's what I want... another like my old one...
Wind also shredded what was left of 3/4th's of the cover of the "greenhouse shelter"... so time to try to enlist help to get the new one put on in the next month or so....Still got to take apart and figure out if I can fix/cobble together the 1/2 one on the deck and salvage it...
Had to come in and sit for a bit... boy, I hate feeling like a wrung out dish rag.... but the sweating is good to get the "toxins" out of my body....throat is still scratchy so annoying... head still stuffed...
. I hate feeling like this...
Dang it on the garden. Geeze you've been battling all the critters and now Mother Nature takes a spin with it. GRRRR
Hope you're feeling better soon - it's always a pain to get a cold that hangs on when you've got stuff to do.
Chickens in for the night. Got the few butternut squash off the vines and the rest of the midget cantaloupe picked... will bring them in tomorrow morning. Something was digging in the garden along a row of potatoes... so I dug a short stretch of some Austrian Crescents (yellow fingerlings) and a short stretch of the French Fingerlings... they are a good sized fingerling... brought them in with me since I had a couple of small buckets to carry, and carried the trap to the house also. There are more of each kind in there... these were the left overs when I finished a row and made a row of the next kind... Nice to have the garden plot "blueprint" so I know what is what...got a couple of these short rows of "left over" from another spot...
There was a huge "swarm of bees"... like 1,000's all around the holly tree shortly after I went out to look at where he got the tree off the fence... not there when I went out and I came all the way around the garden to come to the house a different way... they were flying around like they were madder than a wet hen and buzzing real loud....didn't hear anything this evening and I walked out next to the big holly tree to go to the chickens... don't know if they were honey bees swarming, or if they were yellow jackets or hornets that were royally P...O....ed...from him on the loader hauling that tree out... maybe had a nest in there??? I sure did not get close enough to find out what kind they were... Weird....
I looked tonight and didn't see a "swarm" all hanging together but it was getting darker... will take a look in the morning but not getting too close if there is alot of buzzing....
I am beat so going to bed early after I eat a little...
