Farmerjan's journal - Weather

Stopped to have a tuna fish sandwich and trying to watch the weather. Worked in the kitchen earlier, doing dishes, put eggs in to hard boil.....Luckily I made another gallon of sun tea yesterday....

It rained pretty good, when it let up I went out and we had about .4 inch... not as much as I thought we got. There was a few glimpses of blue sky and the sun actually peeked out for a minute... but just now we had another quick downpour shower.... thought it was done. That's okay... we can use it. The local station weather guy, said that we were actually getting into the very dry category.... and West Va has banned ALL burning until further notice. We are allowed to burn after 4 pm as that is about when the winds switch here... but several days they banned burning for the day due to winds and drier than normal conditions.

So, I might go out and try those shelves now, if I don't get sidetracked again.
 
I "think" I have newly sprouted tomato plants. 🤣. From last year's failed attempts to sprout them. Figured seeds too old. But, sure looks like some came to life. Another couple weeks will tell.

Wouldn't that be a pleasant surprise?!

Agree, they definitely look like tomato seedlings..... Most of my old seeds are broccoli and some cabbage, some tomatoes and some dill and some flowers and such. I buy some of the cheap packets of seed at like Walmart and such when they go on clearance for like $.10 to .25 packet ..... even seeds are getting expensive now... and sometimes I buy what I can't find anywhere and then start them. Think I will start some in the greenhouse now. Just to see what if anything comes up... Give me a little head start on some different ones. But the tomatoes are really better for me to just get the 4 packs of different ones so I can try alot of different kinds and then see what does better for me. Plus some of them are fun to try... like the giant ones and the different colors....

Got one of the hanging stands put together and it is pretty decent... not as heavy as I would like to hang the big pots on... but nice for what I paid... like only about $60 each.... I'm well satisfied with it. Going to try to get the other one put together tomorrow.

DS was at the barn feeding when I texted him since I hadn't talked to him.... and he was going out to eat with a buddy of his and said I was welcome to come down to the local little restaurant... so I went down and we ate and visited.... DS is still having a depression and I cannot stand to be around him for any length of time with it because I will not play into the whole feel sorry for himself.... she came to his house and got her stuff the other day with a mutual friend of theirs... he is all down about it... and she is making no bones about the "new/old" bf with others... and that DS was not very attentive and all this other crap on facebook that has hurt him.... especially since he did more for her and to cater to her than he had ever done and he just cannot understand how she can be this way....he goes from being really mad to just continuing to be hurt....
Another reason for me to totally despise the B#@CH.... but DS is not doing himself any favors with continuing to see her at the daughter's softball games that he is coaching the team....
He has got to want to get over her and he is not at that point ..... I guess I am too cold hearted as I would have not let this destroy me as he is letting her do to himself... He has to make up his mind to be done and I don't think he really is there....

Other than that, the rain stopped and it is getting cooler. We got about .6 inch total with that shower we had later in the afternoon.... Possible rain again towards the end of the week. Supposed to be down near 40 this evening/night... then calling for a frost / freeze warning for the next couple of nights. Will have to make sure that the supplemental heat is working in the greenhouse thing. Need some more cardboard for the floor to cover the spaces in the decking boards. No wind this evening though so that is good. We did have some sun late afternoon after I got the plants moved and doors zipped shut.
 
You're right, DS has to decide it's over and he's not there yet. Complete distance from her would be best -- not happening. Just have to do as you are & not comment much. Hard!!

We got over 2" of rain here. Didn't want it but ground needed it...pastures, ya know. Looks like more rains end of week here. Gotta just deal with it. 🤷

Monday morning, it got down to 36 on the recording thermometer.... Greenhouse heater is working good. It is comfortable but not REAL warm in there and the plants look good. There is a breeze out and it is chilly outside right now. Sure this is not going to help the electric bill but oh well.... it is saving alot of work moving them in and out and it has a thermostat and it was turning it off yesterday when I set it up and was trying it out. I need to get a thermometer for out there. Thinking I might get another indoor/outdoor recording one to monitor the temps out there. I am very satisfied with the 1/2 greenhouse except for the fact that it is a lighter weight frame. But it is anchored down now so I think it will do fine. We still have another good 3 weeks of possible frost weather.
Tonight they are calling for a freeze warning, not just a frost. Temps are supposed to drop into the 20's - low 30's. But that is not unusual here. Our last AVERAGE frost date is May 10th....
And it has been typical the last few years to have warmer than normal in Jan/Feb and then swings in March and cooler than normal in April....and when the "spring time" gets here, it goes from cool to hot nearly overnight.

Going to head out in a little bit and do some errands that I just have got to get done. Stop by and see if they are busy and get the car inspected if not a long line. Been by twice, with a line there waiting... so haven't stopped. They do not take appointments... most times people just leave the vehicle and they get a ride home or something... then come back and get it. But I have been lucky many times and manage to go by when they are not real busy and get it done. It will give me an excuse to see if they got the onion plants in yet too. They had hoped to get them in this past Fri or Sat.

Time to get my butt in gear...
