If you want to try planting some tough perennials I'll send you some bareroot coreopsis and canna lilies. They spread, too, but they're not invasive, just eager. They handle heat just fine, and some drought.

I got my flowers today!!! Thank you so much! I will add on to the flower graveyard. I have some tiny redbud trees to take out of the pots and plant too.

I drove up and stared in disbelief. There was my package, perched on a birdbath (has rain water in it) and hanging off the edge over a big livestock water tub. Also with water in it. Can anybody say STUPID?

Meanwhile 10 feet away is a table. No water.

I’ve opened the bags so the plants can breathe. I’ll be making a bed for them and the redbud trees. Thank you so much!

Thank you for letting me know they arrived.

I've sent plants many times over the years, they should be fine for a couple days. If it's going to be longer you might want to wrap their roots/tubers in damp paper towels.

My bird feeders were low, so I filled them. While I was standing in the perennial garden I saw how messy it was with last year's debris.

Two and a half hours later...

It was FULL of Virginia Creeper and trumpet vines, which needed to be dug up.

See the pile in the back?

I found two of the three Stella d'Oro lilies I had originally planted. I may just move them, as they can't compete against the faster-growing sedum, etc.

The sedum will recover from being stepped upon, as should the canna lilies. The coreopsis doesn't care, it's extremely tough.

Moving slowly this morning. After I came in at dusk yesterday I took a shower and applied DMSO to my feet and legs, which were feeling sore and "crampy". Was in bed just after 9, crashed big time, deep sleep. Woke up with just residual soreness, I am SO thankful!

Today's list is headed up with more urgent items:
  • Coop work, mostly securing HWC to frame, can be done in short segments
  • Trellis for clematis, made from cattle panel
  • Privet and small trees on north side of house are growing back, need to use pruners and reciprocating saw
  • Finish raised beds preparation, plant vegetables
  • Transplant annuals
I'm hoping the lawn mower is ready soon. Repairman called, said that the transmission had seized up, but since it's a good brand and only two years old I told the repairman to go ahead and replace it.

Time to go outside before it gets too muggy.

They gotta be tough to survive here. LOL
Ya never know about the orchids. I was in Hawaii years ago and visited an orchid farm near Volcano National Park - it gets COLD up there. The farmer told us that everyone thought they were crazy to plant orchids - now he has a thriving orchid business. Go figure.

Trellis is done, and I am cooling off inside, the humidity is brutal.

Finished view. I used a spare cattle panel. I cut a short section with bolt cutters, and attached it to the porch railing with black zip-ties.

Then I cut a long and narrow trellis for the top part.

I don't want to put holes in the siding, so I improvised.

Porch "ceiling" view.

I have adjustable clips that can be tightened without doing damage. I attached them to the edge of the vinyl trim, then zip-tied them to the trellis. It's not meant to hold much weight, but just to keep the trellis upright. The one on the right was done last year, one on the left is today's.

As I moved my flats of annuals on the porch look who hopped onto my hand!
