Hi all,

I have a big wooded area that is my goat's brouse area. I know there are pygmy rattlesnakes in the woods, DH has killed several.

I wonder how much of a threat they are to the goats??

Has anyone had a goat that was bitten??

Always something new to worry about.

I had a goat that stepped on a copperhead once. This was when I was younger and living at home. I was cleaning up old wood in the pen and uncovered the snake. I hollered for my brother to get a shovel, and the nosey goat stepped right on the snake. Luckily the snake didn't strike, just stayed coiled up.

We have quite a few snakes around here, but since I got the chickens, I rarely see one.

I don't know if the chickens eat them, or wether they just eat the food that the snakes would eat.

I'm not sure about the goats, but I have seen my chickens devor a 2ft long gartner (sp?) snake in 60sec. flat. One grabs it, runs and all the others chase and peck and then it's gone. :)
