Yes, they are a dual purpose breed, and know they can be, but they are listed with meat breeds at shows and in research material for some reason, boers can be milked too. Just like angus and herefords, but there is a reason most use holesteins, jersey, and guernsey for milk. I didn't classify it, but was merely explaining it....some what.

Oh I know, they're not primarily used for milking and I wouldn't get them purely for milking. But I've heard they have delicious milk. And FEM has actually gotten a decent amount of milk out of some of hers if I remember correctly.

@NH homesteader - You do remember correctly. I milked one little doe for a year and got two quarts a day for almost that entire time. She was a sweetheart and loved the milking! I've tasted Nigi milk and Pygmy milk and they are both sweet and delicious with lots of butterfat. Yummy stuff!

I was wondering something and can't seem to find any help from google, so when google fails, leave it to the BYH community. If i have sold the kids, and milking the doe, twice a day, What happens if i miss a day? We do little all day things, and if need-be, we could make it work. But, if we miss it entirely one day, would this effect her milk production? Basically:
If she's used to being milked twice a day, doesn't get milked at all one day, Will this effect her?
If we miss it once and only milk her once that day, will this effect her?

Either way it will drop, but just missing one milking will not be as bad as missing a whole day. If I milk a couple hours late on 2x a day milking, I notice a drop in production.

When the "demand" for milk decreases the production will as well. Some does are easy to build back up, others are not.

You also need to know your doe. Some of our very high producers simply cannot do a 24 hour fill. Those does absolutely much be milked every 12 hours.

You simply cannot (or should not) just "skip" a day just because you feel like it.
