We have a doe that has been suffering from itchy skin for a while. She has dandruff/white flakes on her hair, but does not really present with the "mange" look.

If it's a case of dry skin, could something be missing from her diet? What kind of supplementation could we give her?

Should I be looking for a parasite? I can't seem to see anything on her besides the flakes.

Any help is appreciated.

Right now, I have a couple of does that are still finishing up their winter shedding. The undercoat typically has quite a bit of dandruff flakes that comes out too as they are rubbing and scratching out the soft undercoat. As long as it is just dry flakes, no signs of mites or lice, You can brush or if you are ambitious, you can wash out the undercoat and the flakes should resolve then. It seems that over winter, the undercoat keeps the loose skin from falling off and it isn't exactly pretty come spring. Keep an eye for any redness, bald spots or unreasonable itchiness though. Tis the season for lice and mites too.

If you like, you can add BOSS to their diets .....it will add a little sheen and slick their coats up in a jiffy...OK in a few weeks or so , but jiffy sounded better...
