She is a beef heifer. Her udder is too big to cuff in my hand. I am going to go get a head shoot tomorrow and I do have a cattle corral so this weekend I will examine her. I would be more excited for a calf, but secondly excited just to be able to milk her, even if she is a beef heifer. She is real tame and I am hoping for the best. I will keep you informed.

She's not fat. Today the udder looked to be smaller. Couldn't touch it. Maybe it was hormones. I don't know. But I do know there WAS definately an udder. I will be able to really check her out this weekend. My hopes were high, baby or no baby. Milk would be nice.

Can you post some pictures of her for us?

Take a look at the vulva too, as usually when it's swollen and loose and floppy looking that's a really good indicator that she will calve within 24 to 48 hours.

I've never seen a precocious udder on a heifer.
When I was a little girl we had a hefier on the farm that we were growing up to be a milk cow. My mother bought calves every spring to raise for meat. One calf started nursing on this 1/2 grown hefier. She did not mind and actually started producing milk for him. She had never even seen a bull and did not get bred until much later. Strange things happen all the time

I know this is an old thread, but you said you had a steer out there with her???

Have you ever seen him suck on her udder?? we have problems with this in heifers on the farm i work on. For some reason, some just never get over that need to suck after they are weaned. And they will suck on another heifer. One of our heifers has an udder even tho she is only a year old and has never been bred, because someone has obviously been sucking on her. Which isnt good. Espiecally in a dairy heifer. Maybe that was the issue??
