Hey dad... Just curious, but WHY was the state bee inspector going through your hives? Did you invite him to do so? Did someone lodge a complaint against you? Sorry, but I have this "thing" about gubmint intrusion and invasion of privacy... all that sorta thing... Guess your bees do too ;)

Wow Chooks... surprised you still have that bottom screen cover still installed... I figured sunny CA, you'd have had that out weeks or even months ago. I still have mine in because we've had so much wet/cold weather. I believe we had snow not too far back in time... supposed to have cool rainy days till Saturday... Didn't think I'd say it, but; ENOUGH RAIN!!

Seems like it's primarily the three of us on the bee threads. Really glad you guys hives are doing so well! :clap

Sunny Ca hasn't been so sunny lately. I kept the cover in because I didn't want the other hive trying to rob the when they are getting established. The nights have been cool still. I'll remove it tomorrow though.

I've been trying to get more people active here. If it, I guess it will just be us chatting.

I haven't been in my hives since I did demo last weekend (not this one just past, but the previous one). Too busy with work and just too danged hot out. I really should check on them again to see if they've drawn out the blank foundation frames I patchworked in there... Not happenin tonight though... after 8 and I had a long day. Haven't even had a shower yet... I come here to unwind for a bit first (after feeding animals and letting them out to relieve themselves, etc.).

Glad you had a good Father's day weekend Dad... Mine was "restful" :) Did go to dinner at Red Lobster last night with my favorite oldest daughter and had a 2 pound lobster, steamed, with drawn butter :drool:celebrate:love:drool:D =D I miss living on the east coast where real seafood was readily available. Was even better when I lived in New England and lobster was no big deal (read not so expensive!). I remember paying $2.50 a pound right at the wharf from the lobstermen when they came in. <sigh> those was the good old days...

You did better than me! Something is wrong with my queen in my split and they are replacing her now. I hope this queen hatches and mates good this time.

She's got about a five day window to fly and mate... and that is several days after she emerges. If the weather doesn't cooperate, and your neighborhood drone population is off, the odds just keep dropping. :\ The drones have a prime fertility window too, it's like trying to get the stars to line up.

Do you know of any beeks near you? Like a 2-4 mile radius? If not, how about any beeks at all, that you might could take the hive to for several weeks? Do you have a mating nuc on hand (for ease of transportation)? How about buying a queen? Worse comes to worse, you can just do a newspaper combine this fall if they can't get queenright.

Just throwing a bunch of ideas out there...

We had those heavy thunderstorms during the current queens mating flight time. No thunderstorms on the horizon for the new queen that should be hatching by today. So a few days to harden, then start her mating flights. :fl this time.

And yes, I do have a source to buy a queen from, if it comes to that.
