Now THIS... was a cool find! New garden buddys

DSC_0326.JPG

Got to do my first comb buttering... They had attached #10 to the side of the hive.

The center line of the #11 comb start is 1/4" off... Do I bend this or just move this bar deeper into the nest? Any top bar peeps watching this thread?

Well, I dropped it in between two straight combs and they fixed it right up! Probably much better than me putting my fingers on it. Pic doesn't really show it, but it's right now. I didn't want to brush them off...

Did inspections this morning, and the lagging hive looks like it's gonna make it. Last weekend I shifted a brood comb from my strong hive into it, and this morning things are looking better. Several of the original combs have capped brood and larva, and if I bring a another comb from my other strong hive it will be up and rockin' in no time.

This pic is from the outermost comb, and the brood tells me they are having an easier time keeping everything warm.

My strong hive has seven of these now - would have been eight with the one I shifted. Things are really picking up! I posted this same pic in Hive Inspection and Reversal... wups!:D =D

So today I learned something - my bees like asparagus better than blackberry blossoms. I went by the patch and it was humming! I guess day glo pollen is what you need in mid May...

Fantastic pictures! What kind of camera do you use?

Good to know on the asparagus, I have a bed of it too. It's great that you got your weak hive going nicely! Great job! @Amiga is a top bar hive keeper too.

It's an old Nikon d40 - but I can run it with one hand and rubber gloves on at that! But now my topbars are getting too heavy to hold w/ one hand. :\ That's just asking for trouble! :D =D
Shooting in the asparagus was tricky. It's such an interconnected tangle of feathery branches that make it hard to focus on anything.

@Amiga has been out lately... you should send them a bump to find out how the hive is doing!:caf

How about you, @babsbag ,are you fixing to pull some spring honey? :frow
