:frow Welcome, to BYH, from another retired nurse, in East Texas.

I worked at Mayo Clinic, in Rochester, MN (where I got my RN). DH & I moved to PA, to be closer to DD, and I worked at Penn State Hershey Med Center, and then Home Health. Then in 2005 I was DXd with Lyme Disease, which took me down for the count. I couldn't find a doctor, who could help me. So, I was very sick for several years. Then I found an Integrative doc, who built up my immune system with herbs, supplements & neutraceuticals. It took two more years, but eventually I started feeling better. When I was so sick, I retired, to focus on getting better, and haven't worked in nursing since. Although, I have used my experience, for a more holistic approach.

As part of my plan to get well & stay well, I embarked on a path toward a holistic lifestyle, which led me to homesteading, so I can produce my own non-toxic, GMO free food. In 2014, DH & I followed DD & her family, to Dallas,Texas.

We now own just under 5 acres, have oodles of chickens, a turkey hen, 5 Pekin Ducks, 4 wethered Nigerian Dwarf goats and 2 awesome Maremma LGDs. This Wed. We are driving 3-1/2 hours NE, to AR, to pick up two bred LaMancha does from GoatGurl. I am SO looking forward to having my own goat's milk, so I can make cheese, yogurt, butter ice cream and kefir! :celebrate

We have already planted 7 fruit trees & berries. In the next month, we are going to be clearing grass, tilling, adding compost, lime, kelp, etc. to start a large garden (40x80'). In addition to veggies, I want to start growing the herbs that we already use for food & health, as well as for the animals. Eventually, I would like to start doing Aquaponics, so we can also raise fish, to add to the food chain, here on Devonviolet Acres. :)

It's so nice to have another nurse join us here on BYH! You have come to the right place, for help developing your homestead. We have lots of wonderful, helpful, kind homesteaders. So, don't hesitate to ask questions, and when you feel so inclined, don't hesitate to jump in and give a bit of advise or encouragement.

:welcome

Thank you everyone! I'm so excited to be part of your group and among so many people who are of a similar mind in so many things! This need to farm and grow things is not something everyone understands.

I can't wait to get started with my new animals, but for now I will learn, learn, learn. I think I will start with unregistered animals in order to get my feet wet as I'm getting started. I will be happier and more relaxed about it all.
