Welcome to BYH!

Why doesn't having horses count? We're delighted to have another horse owner here as your experiences will help many in our Horse forums!

We have a CA thread in the Where am I? Where are you? forum that might be a good place to talk with your neighbors about resources.

Hi! Welcome to BYC!

What part of Cali are you from? I live near the foothills in Nor. Cali, and we have no problem finding critters of all sorts.

Depending on where you actually are, and what you are looking for, I can probably send you in the right direction. I know a few sheep breeders (several breeds to choose from), as well as goats. I dont personally know any cow breeders, but I know a few people who do. There are also a few pig breeders, mostly american heritage breeds (I dont know pigs at all, but thats the name I remember reading as far as breed on them).

Chickens are super easy to find, in most breeds, even non-hatchery stock can be found fairly easily.

CL of Sacramento and Gold Country tend to have tons of listings, from chickens to exotic oxen (zebu, I think), mini cows to boer goats and tea-cup piglets.

If you are near a feed store anywhere, the employees out here can usually give you the names and numbers of someone who has just about any breed and species you might want.

Also, the fairs are coming soon, and you can usually find something there. Sheep are pretty popular to show, so you could find a lot of good resources there. The Nevada County Fair, and the Mid State Fair will be starting in a few weeks/months.
