Very happy to have found this group. We got our first group of dorper sheep in July, some of ewes are already pregnant. I had goats in Maryland before we retired and moved here September of last year 2022 on a 40 acres ranch. I am very excited to learn everything I need to know about raising hair sheep. I also have Ayam Cemani and Ayam Ketawa (Laughing chicken).
This will be your first lambing? How exciting! Be sure to post lots of pictures! Your ewes are pretty. I started with 4 Dorper and Katahdin crosses and a Dorper ram. I decided I liked the Katahdins better and switched to a Katahdin ram. I still have one of my original ewes, she is 9 years old, in October, she will be 10. Do you have livestock guard dogs?
I love your chickens. I’ve heard the laughing roosters on YouTube videos, they are amazing. This is a friendly forum with lots of nice people.
I hope everyone is doing well out there. This is our first summer here and it’s hot . We still have this one large Pods container in our yard that w’ve been trying to empty. Can never get it done, there‘s so much to do. I am happy to say that our solar panels are up and running. It’s powering our whole house and also sending excess to the grid. Now, answers to your questions? I had Pigmy goats, they were so sweet but they always managed to find ways to get out of the fencing. Yes, this is my first time raising sheep and it’s a bit scary. How do you keep them from bloating and worms? I’m using raw-unfiltered apple cider vinegar daily on their water and First Saturday lime on their beddings. I use it on my chicken coops too. The breeder advised me to deworm every 3 months.
