I've never had one get their head stuck in the tote feeder. You have to make the hole big enough that they cannot get their head stuck, or small enough that they can't get it in.
We used them exclusively for probably 4 years, and I still use them now and never had a single one stuck.
I got the idea from someone else on here that did them.
Same as a feeder with slats, make them big enough that they can't get their head stuck, or small enough that they can't get their head in.
Was just offering as an interim solution.
