Just wondering how often this needs to be done? Also, is there anything you can do help naturally keep hooves down?

Unforunately, I find that the more grain I give my goats, the more often I have to trim hooves. I also find that if you don't have enough browse, you'll have to grain more or they lose condition. So you either trim hooves more or have skinny goats. At least for me.

So maybe every two months?

LOL It varies. Some people blessed with living in rocky, arid areas never have to trim. For us, it's every 2-3 months...sometimes montly depending on the weather. When it's moist, we have to do it more often. Horn also grows faster in my experience in the warmer weather.

I have to trim every two months here too. Thankfully it's a very easy job and I actually enjoy it.

We don't have the rocky torrain here, so we have to trim every couple of months.

Get yourself some large sandstone boulders they work wonders..also I have a couple of ramps I have shingled with cheap/leftover house shingles ( and no I have never had an issue with goats eating them/chewing on them) and the goats actually will "file" their hooves.. it works wonders in keeping my hoof trimming to a bare minimum around here.. placed a ramp of shingles for my bucks to come and go from the barn and love it love it love it.. because there is nothing worse than trimming stinky buck hooves!

Off to the workshop I go! We have rocky, clay soil, but anything I can do to keep from trimming hooves I will do!!
