:frowWelcome to BYH! Unlike the rest, my babies are sheep, not goats. However, although not identical...much is the same and I love seeing everyone's animals and babies :) Very helpful and supportive people here and you've come to the right place for goat/sheep addiction enablers
howdy! i love the pic of your LGD. is it a great pyrenees? i love looking at critter pics. i can't figure out how to post pics just yet. well hope to see ya around the barnyard soon

We have Naked Necks, Single Comb Brown Leghorns, a Speckeled Sussex, a BLRW, a D'Anver, Partraige Rock Bantams, and Mille Fleurs
I use to raise rhode island reds. the old timey type. they are some egg laying machines. love those brown eggs. when i was growning up my grandparents had dom. and alot of mixes. they were just for eggs and table.

Hooowdy! thanks again. so, come spring what breed do you plan on raising? here, we have Reg. Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goats. they are alot of fun... :frow

My intention at this point is to start out with full sized Lamanchas and breed them to one or more Nigerian Dwarf bucks to produce minis. 2/3rds the size of the full sized, bigger than the Nigies, similar milk production at lower feed costs. If I can breed in polled and blue eyes as well, and keep the large productive udder of the Lamancha with the higher milk fat content of the Nigie, (and a few other desires) I'll have the goats I eventually want. :thumbsup

That sounds like a great plan. I've also thought about getting one lamancha doe and breed her with my blue eyed buck, i think we are on the same boat with the cost and all.I have not yet done this. I'v e been concentrating of my ND cause their my love. and i'm more into them right now. i even got rid of all my chickens cause i fell deeply with these babies. they are so much fun. love the milk from ND. we test our herd every year for CAE, CL, Johne's & Q-fever. now i know my babies are healthy. plus we don't worry about drinking the milk ourselves.

I'm by myself and have rather large clumsy hands, mild gout, and the start of arthritis. So I really want the larger more easily handled teats of a full sized doe or mini. The Nigie teats I've seen seem a little too difficult (small) for me to handle. I also have always had a preference toward larger animals rather than smaller. I dislike small dogs as they are always under foot and a trip hazard for example
I'll still keep the chickens and bees. There's nothing like real honey :drool and when not molting/shutting down for winter, the hens egg sales pay for their upkeep for the most part. I love milk and drink about a 1/2 gallon a day. Can't wait to be able to produce and drink milk from my own animals. Good that you do all the testing and I intend to as well. Want to keep a healthy and closed herd once I start.
