Since I already received such nice and helpful suggestions, I guess I should put up a quick introduction.

I'm Ashley, my husband is active duty Army, and we have 4 children that live with us, and 1 on the way - my husband has 3 more children from a previous marriage. Ages range from 18 down to 5 right now. We have two dogs, a German Shepherd and an Australian Cattle Dog (blue), and a really obnoxious cat. We also have 5 bunnies as of this morning, 3 adults (2 bucks and a doe) and the two newborns.
I grew up in Arizona on a horse ranch, so I'm really familiar with horses and barrel racing. I also raised Holland Lops for 4H/FFA. I was raised around cattle, but never did much except help the neighbors herd them and helped my friend with washing her Brangus for the county fair.
We're about to move from southwest TX to Oklahoma this winter, and are looking for our first place to buy. We definitely need the space. I want dairy goats (probably Nubians, I like them), chickens, quail, and more space for the bunnies. We are still debating on whether or not to get pigs or feeder calves, but definitely going to start with the smaller livestock. I don't have a lot of experience with goats, other than we had a Nigerian dwarf buck when I was a teenager and we named him Stinky, for the obvious reason. He was pretty cool and you could lead him with a dog collar and he rode in the back of the truck like a dog.
We aren't "preppers" but we do canning and cook everything from home. We are trying to be more self sustaining for our large family. I have a garden here but the stupid pigeons that I can't "dispatch" because I live in town have almost destroyed everything in it this year. They are flying rats!
That's about all, we're currently working out kinks with the move and having that many critters that need a place in the truck to come with! We just bought a car trailer to haul our 3rd pickup (an antique that isn't reliable to go that far) so I think I just bought my extra space! :)

Welcome once again! Sounds like you have your hands full! Thank your hubby for his service. I expect to be starting packing next week and be heading out next month. I just don't know where I'm moving to yet :barnie:hu

Welcome from the Tyler Texas area! I don't know where in Oklahoma you are moving, but try this site.

www.landsofamerica.com click on Oklahoma, enter the county and other information, it's a place to start looking!

Welcome from Texas!
You must be in the nice part of TX! I see grass, lol.

We're moving to Fort Sill, my husband is field artillery, he'll probably retire from there. It's the Lawton area, but we found the school district we want. I'll check that site out!

East Texas. Lush forest, lots of grass, ranches and farms. We love it here!

Here's a pic of our horse Joe and Trip, our LGD. It shows a little of the trees we have.

Thank you for your husband's service! And for yours as an Army wife! Hooaah

My son is a Lt in the Army stationed at Fort Sill in Oklahoma. He just returned from a year in Kuwait. Dang, those are long long years... I bet you can relate. Ashley is my daughter-in-law's name also. I bet you have your hands full with a large family, garden, and animals. What I learned, was that I would have liked more of my infrastructure in place before getting the animals.
So when you move to your new place, if there aren't waterers, fences, and electrical connections convenient - get it done ASAP. It'll make life so much easier. We're running underground water and power, building 4 season waterers, putting in high traffic areas, fencing, and feeders while doing chores longhand. It takes a lot longer because we spend so much time doing chores that there isn't a lot of time left to spend on our current project.

Welcome from North Central Arkansas. We'll be practically neighbors once you get moved.
