I just purchased 2 goats and I would appreciate any advice that anyone has to offer about dairy goats.

I have never owned dairy goats before so I am a little nervous. If anyone knows of any plants or shrubs they should not eat that would be a big help. I read somewhere that azaleas were poisonous to them. I am try to make sure everything is ready we pick them up this weekend.

Azaleas are poisonous, yes.

This website has a lot of good basic advice on goat care: www.fiascofarm.com, it's a good starting point. (She's a vegan and into a lot of herbal stuff so you can sort all that out if you're not interested in what she has to say about those things, her care information is good.)

If they are full grown good quality mixed grass hay (maybe with some alfalfa in it) and loose GOAT mineral salts is all they need, if they are growing I would advice some goat grain(I prefer pelleted feed), 1 or 2 lbs a day, but start out slow if it is brand they aren't used to.

Just good Pasture and loose mineral salts in the summer months is adequat for a grown non-lactating doe.

find out if they have ever been vaccinated CD&T, if so they need a booster shot a year.

They need their hooves trimmed a min. of 3 or 4 times a year,

Are they milking right now or are you planning on breeding them?

I now wild cherry tree leaves when broken off and in the wilting stage are poisonous.

You need to decide when you are going to worm (on a schedule or as needed) and with what the people in your area are worming with.
