You are already thinking about the best time for your ewes to have their lambs. I’d call that pretty good management.

I’m lambing now, have several due day before Christmas, Christmas Day and day after Christmas. Not what I planned! I have another group due in February. Was trying to have them lamb a couple of months ago.

I’m located in East Texas. February is usually the coldest month. We might get a couple of weeks of 20F degree weather, but overall our winters aren’t too bad.

Trying to get my program figured out.

Texas born myself. My Pawpaw and uncles were cattle ranchers in the Muleshoe area N TX.

Thanks again for the help.
Hope you and the family have a good Christmas and stay warm!

The Pelibuey is a hair sheep and so are the Dorpers. The Dorper’s will wear a thick wool on their backs, which is desirable in South Africa. It protects them from the sun. In rainy East Texas it can get soggy and matted, so sometimes I run them through a chute and use hand shears to cut the matts off. I have 5 White Dorpers that I’m crossing with my Katahdin rams. I kept 2 ewes from last year, one shed out clean, the other is a shaggy mess. It will take several generations to get the wooly backs bred out. I’m using the Dorpers to make a meatier lamb.

Are they weathered?

Do you want all of them all to be pregnant?

Do you have enough space to many get 1 or 2 more rams to move them to another field and make it so they are not alone?

Do you ever want baby’s if not Are you ok with butchering him?

Have you named him yet?(just for fun)
