Kidding Tip #1
We have found providing something such as a cinder block to stand on(for Nigerians and minis) really helps them be able to get their kids in position.
You will notice that often, goats will arch, stretch, move side to side, lower their front end etc days befor kidding. Many, the day of and even during early labor. They are trying to help get those kids in position.

When they have something to stand on it really helps. It needs to be size appropriate and something stable, that won't flip. This is really helpful for those that have large litters!

Kidding Tip #2
Make sure the water bucket is in a place they cannot accidentally deliver into the bucket. Surprisingly this happens more often then you'd think.

Kidding Tip #3
If your doe has been laboring long and is getting really tired and you see the doe looks like she is slowing down or almost "stopping" all progress, give some Nutridrench. The nutridrench can give them that extra boost of sugars for energy they need. We have personally experienced this and found when in heavy labor and they are tired but haven't started even pushing, within 20 minutes they are ready to "go". Remember those early labor contractions they are having is taking a lot out of them.

Please add kidding tips that you'd like to share! :)

My does won't even touch the molasses water.
Ours won't either until immediately after kidding- they drink one warm bucket w/molasses and then that's it.
Ours won't touch any thing with molasses any other time.
I am glad they drink that one bucket it really boosts their energy.

Mine won't even then. I guess they don't need it? I offer, they just turn their noses up.

Mine are the same.

My tip is to know your does and listen to them-if they aren’t comfortable with you attending the birth, then don’t, but do check on her every hour.

Most of my does have been super sneaky this year. Out of 4 deliveries, only one was attended. Out of the 3 that weren't, 1 went badly. I would really like to catch all the deliveries next season. My doe that lost her babies 3 weeks ago is still looking for them. I want to avoid that happening again if possible.

Tip number whatever: IF the babies have stand up ears and one droops, give that kid a small dose of BoSE. The ears will be standing with two days.

If the does won't take Molasses water, They may need the electrolytes. Either give them some electrolyes or try a bit of sugar and a teaspoon of salt and baking soda in the bucket of warm water.

Hello everyone. This is my first time posting. I have had Mini Silkys since fall 2014. I have lost one adult and three kids since then. This year I am not going to be too late if I can help it. And this is the reason. I bought a baby monitor! I have it on right now because I have two expectant mama's.

Greetings and welcome to BYH! So glad you joined us. There's a wealth of info, knowledge and experience shared in the multitude of threads. Browse around and see what interesting stuff you can find. By all means post away when the desire strikes you, especially if you have questions (provide as much detail/info as possible and pictures truly help)... With all the great folks here, generally someone will respond in no time at all. Please make yourself at home!

I'm not sure what breed a "mini silky" is... I'm sorry, but I've never heard of it (Not that I'm any kind of experienced expert). :idunno Could you share some pics? Thanks! Hope you enjoy the site!
