I have a lamb that has been limping on one back leg. I noticed it one day but couldn't grab him and then I just forgot when I had help around later. The next day, he didn't get up and go with the rest of the herd. I managed to get hold of him and saw that he seems to have an infection between his cleats on that foot. It looked pretty nasty but I wasn't able to get in there and clean it up much. I soaked it in an iodine solution and the next day it was much better. The day after, I had jury duty and my husband forgot to soak it and it was worse again. I soaked it again yesterday, saw a little improvement and soaked it again today. Anything else I should/can do for it?

Does it look like foot scald to you? If I were you I would separate him, his dam, and any of his siblings from the rest of the flock and treat him (at least) with zinc sulfate put directly on the infection. Does he have a temp? If he does you can start him on antibiotics, too.

I don't have any experience with foot scald in real life, just looking up pictures online. It doesn't look like the pictures I've seen as it doesn't involve the hoof at all. To me, it looks more like he got a puncture from stepping on something and it became infected. I don't know for sure though. Any tips on what to look for in foot scald? I'm going to have my husband help me catch him and hold him tomorrow so I can get a better look. We'll check his temp then as well. Thanks!

Foot scald is in between the two claws, usually red/raw & sore looking.

Foot scald would also be stinky in between the hooves. We use DMSO mixed with LA200 and paint it on the foot.

DMSO is just a viscuous solution that is not a medication, it just aids in the absorption of medications when it's mixed with it.
