Hubby complained this morning that almost all his baby corn has been eaten. He thinks it's the wild rabbits and not the deer, in retribution for him killing a rabbit two days ago.

Now I'm wondering if I can rabbit proof the new garden, after I get it deer proofed.
Chicken wire ~ 2ft high and a bit of "apron" on the outside.

And how would the gates be proofed? Do I need to create a door sill for them and leave only a 1-2 inch gap? Grr. It's a big dang fence. There's 4 man gates and two tractor sized gates. I have some 2*2 wire that we had previously used for a turkey aviary, but its 4' wide and I don't want to cut it. I don't normally buy chicken wire because it doesn't work to keep predators out. Maybe I'll just keep an eye online to see if anyone is getting rid of some I can repurpose. We need a yard dog to chase all these critters away.

Edit: the garden fence is 2*4 no climb, the 72" tall version

EEK -- didn't realize it was a huge area. Though out neighbor has his entire farm (8 ac) fenced 4ft 4x4 (I think LOL I see it every day), and cross fenced with chicken wire. If you were to do that you could ~probably just have chicken wire lay flat on the ground at the gates instead of an apron.
The 2x2 would probably work as well.
I don't remember where I heard this - but if rabbits can't see it they won't try to get at it. I don't know how true that is but our neighbors with the cattle ranch set up a nice sized garden area and used the black "silt fence" and didn't have a rabbit problem. It worked for them.

I have no idea how a rabbit would get through 2x4 no climb fence... Sorry... there is 2x4 no climb horse fence at one place we rent and the 2 lots where it is down to the ground, there are no rabbits in it when they are outside it.... maybe they dig under 2x4???? The owner there says the rabbits are all over the couple of fields but they can't get into the 2 smaller fields that were fenced for gardens and such....down to the ground level... if it is vertical, 2 wide by 4 high...and stiff no climb... guess I don't have to deal with rabbits much....Learn something new everyday.....
I can see chicks getting through until a certain age/size growth....
