Looking for advice on separating goats?

I have a lot of goats including 5 bucks. Right now I have one buck that is living with the does and he is a perfect gentleman. Normally he would be in his own pen but when the barn collapsed in our freak snow storm things got a little crazy and he moved in with the does. In a normal year the bucks stay in their pen and the does stay in theirs.Being together has not caused any problems and I have had a lot of does freshen, maybe it is just old news to him by now.

If I leave my ram in with the ewes after they give birth, the ram will breed them back at about 3 months. That is way too soon, the ewes need time to get back into good condition before breeding again. My rams have been very good with the ewes and lambs, but I do have to remove the ram fairly soon after birthing.

Keep your buck away from the does until it is time for breeding. You can leave him with them if he behaves himself. If he is butting the does, then get him out immediately. When they are about to give girth, get him out. I hope this helps. They can't all live together as one big happy family. The doelings must be kept separated until they are of age or size to breed.
