I'm so sorry he didn't make it It can be very hard when a young one gets sick, and it's so heartbreaking. Hope you can find a good healthy companion for your other goat.
My Nubian is a loud drama queen. And yes, the neighbors often wonder what is going on. LOL
Goats can seem so mean to each other in regards to the pecking order thing. I just wanna go in there and put a stop to it. But that would only prolong it I think.
When looking for a new buddy I think just one would be good. Then they only have each other.
In some ways the Nubian noise does have an advantage. If they get in trouble or can't/won't come in with the others I can still usually find my Nubian/Togg crosses because they are still "talking" at one volume or another. While, if my purebred Toggs get in trouble or can't/won't come in with the others I may not be able to find them in the dark. I had one get stuck in the field fence that called once when she got stuck and didn't make anymore noise until she saw me. It is not easy to find a brown goat that is so quiet.
As my dad pointed out many creatures need the presence of others of their own kind.
