Bruce woke me up from a dead sleep this morning saying "I can't find the baby!" Well, I've been sick with a stomach virus for the last 4 days and haven't been moving around a whole lot, with the exception of to the bathroom and back, but with his statement I shot out of the bed at a break-neck speed, threw on a housecoat over my PJs and dashed outside to the goat shelter. Her momma was happily munching on alfalfa and the other goats were enjoying their breakfast Bruce had just put out for them and they were all pretty calm, considering there was a baby missing! I found that reassuring, even though I still hadn't located her. I had to get down on my hands and knees to search the pen for her and finally found her in the 4-inch space between the boards on one of the pallets we were using to support the flooring in the shelter and was sound asleep. Bruce and I set to the task immediately of taking out the pallets and replacing them with cinder blocks to support the flooring and that gave her an easy place to get to to sleep, but also gave us quick, easy access to her if need be. We had just talked the night before about how she could probably fit through the goat fencing we have, as it has 4-inch openings between the wires, and that pretty much verified that to be true and the pallets had crossed my mind, but I had just dismissed it.

My husband was dead set against getting goats a year ago before I got them, but he asked me yesterday if our does could have more than 1 pregnancy a year, because he thought we should have another set of babies before year's end! I think I've made a goat lover out of him. What ya think? :woot

Here's a current picture of her at 3 days old.

When you spend time with goats, it's hard not to fall in love with them. My 23 yr old son who does not like goats has been the only one home a couple times for kiddings this year. Guess who goes out multiple times a day to check on the kids now? Love it! Glad you found her!

Look at that face. Soooo smoochable!
So let me just say.. this is how ya do it ;) It would be very taxing to kid 2x in a year so get more goats stagger their breedings so you can have kids all the time.

I like the way you think Southern! More goats, always room for more, right?;)
