For stretching wire, you can make a cheap, but effective, fence stretcher out of 2x4s. Drill holes through both, use large fender washers on both sides, and bolts. A2x4 on each side of the wire, clamped together with the bolts, chain around both ends, come along, and you are in business.

Yep, that is what I did as well., 2 come-alongs, one high, one low so I could keep the fence vertical all along.

I had a good birthday. Dinner out with the family and rodeo last night. All three kids participated in the calf scramble. I also had fun yardsale-ing. I got a croquette set for the kids, new metal parcel box, yoga mat, and a recliner for hubby. If he can sleep better, he can knock more off the To Do List. ;)

Can you get her into a small pen with the others? We find if we get all of them crowded unto a small pen where they can hardly move around they are easier to handle. May get a halter on her and get her into the hoof trimming chair? Then put a towel over her face to hide her eyes and check out the leg. If it isn't broken could be an infection or a bug/snake bite. Antibiotics in the shoulder while she is in the chair is much easier to give than while she is standing (and bucking, lunging, rearing, etc.) If you have another person to help get her into the chair and hold the towel over her head, you can check the leg and vax antibiotic all at once.

I don't like electric fence either. It seems to go dead at the worst times. :gig I will be using some Electronet on the ranch to divide the pastures until we get the permanent sheep wire installed. Then to divide up the permanent sheep wire pastures to encourage proper rotational grazing. But I don't have to like it. LOL

So I watched Betty Blaze come into night pen and during feeding. She is limping a lot less than in the morning. No obvious signs of injury so I'm going to continue monitoring.

Bruno woke the neighborhood up at 6am. There was an unauthorized dog on property. He was a big fluffy golden lab with a collar. By the time I got there Bruno was barking in his ear drill sergeant style as he tried to skinny under the gate to leave. The dog ended up doing a running leap over the 4ft fence. Bruno followed and pushed him off our neighbor's front yard. He marked it as his territory then recalled when asked.
