Okay, forgive me if its in here... but I looked and did not see one thread here for people in Maryland. So, I'm starting it. I live in Henderson, MD. I have three nanny Pygmy goats, to be used for milking primarily, and meat secondarily. I also have 38 chickens in the "growing up" stage, to be used for eggs and meat.

Henderson is on the Eastern Shore side of MD. I'm about 5 minutes from the Delaware line. A nearby town is Centreville, people usually can recognize that. For those familiar with MD, its up 301 about 26 miles from the bridge.

Anyone else out there in the area? I know I've seen lots of goats around... one Boer goat farm just in DE, near the border... several pygmy goats in backyards here and there. Was hoping someone in the area would also be on this site. I'm trying to find a buck to breed to but anyone I contact never gets back to me, I think because they all seem to be switching to Nygerian and thinning their Pygmy herds or doing away with them altogether.

I really don't want to have to buy a buck! I have until November/December to find one though, so not too worried...

I just moved to southern MD last year - May 2012. Busy getting our "farm" set up here after moving from Oklahoma. Shopping for a Dexter cow/heifer, and maybe some milk goats....

We move often, so it is a challenge maintaining a herd - generally we have to sell all the goats, chickens and cattle and then re-buy when we get established in a new place. The horses NEVER get sold, though. We've been hauling them with us for 26 years - 9 moves crisscrossing the ENTIRE country (FL to NY to AK).

It's not cheap, but "farming" is the lifestyle my husband and I were raised in, and we want our children to grow up with the same responsibilities, even if their father's job moves us constantly.
