I just visited your website. What a beautiful herd! :D I am located in Illinois, and unfortunately, we are in drought conditions as well. Good luck with your girls. I hope the weather cooperates and allows you to rebuild your herd soon.

Thanks so much :) I know many folks are in the same situation as we are, some worse. If they were regular cows we could just take them to the sale barn but these genetics are valuable so would hate to see them lost from the gene pool.

Hope we all get some long rains here soon :)

Just updated our website. We really need these cows gone. There is one bull & eight cows/heifers available. Individual prices are listed on our website but you can take them ALL for only $13,500 which is just $1500 per animal. They are all registered with the AMDCA.

So sorry your in this situation Liz - Just sent 4 Galloway to slaughter today and another 6 in a couple of weeks as we too are feeding winter hay. Tend to send them in the late Fall but not this year as its cheeper to purchase a new chest freezer or two. Looks like we will be culling the breeding stock more than ever.

Good luck with the sale and a bargain for anyone with grass and hay

Absolutely right there! We have one MD in the freezer right now and could do that with one of the bulls but hate to do it with good fertile cows & young heifers. Not to mention we have to pay the hay bill! LOL! Sorry you are in the same situation with hay. Our cows are really chowing through it :(

How are feed prices up there? Grain here is shooting up really high. We will be putting some of the less productive LB's in the freezer late summer/Fall too as soon as it gets cool enough of a morning to do the job. Had a couple on probation anyways so they will get put in the freezer sooner rather than later now.

TSC chicken feed and cracked corn shot up this week by just short of $3 a bag to $19 for starter and $14 for corn - the outlook is bad bad bad. Round bales are $80 they were 25 last year $9 for a square. No second cut NO rain - my place is just burnt by the sun daily - everyone is clucking, mooing, oinking, neying, bleating quacking (well hissing) and gobbling for rain and grass

Yep! It's burnt here too. Some folks never even got a first cutting down here. It did rain all night on Saturday which was a blessing & the temps have dropped into the 90's BUT we need a LOT more rain to even start recovering.

Not sure how big your round bales are but we are paying anywhere from $230 to $330 per ton down here!

Is that $19 per 50lb bag? If so ouch! We are not that high yet....... We have to get pig feed next week & I'm expecting over $10 per 50lb bag. It was $7.90 a bag a few weeks back.

Wow, what a lovely herd you have.
Thanks Symphony :) Someone with grass or plenty of money for hay could really get a good starter herd here. Some great genetics.
