Friday the FF I thought woul kid before one who has left me with this bottle kid -- she had twin does. Unfortunately, on did not get out of sack and expired . Other is fine and she's taking to motherhood beautifully. This is a Boer doe.
This morn, went to feed barn girls -- and release into normal pasture routine after all the rain -- as I walked in, see this white kid in wrong jug, thinking how'd her kid get there ?? Then notice her twins were with her and this was a new one checked and another doeling -- big as the 3 day olds!
Now, I had moved a big group of goats to another enclosure. Had to go find her mom! Quickly went to find a soiled butt....mainly 2 were this close. Found a telltale blood on Summer and escorted her back to other field.
So sunshine day. Promise I'll get pictures!! .
Don't even want to say this - jinx - but this month 8 kids (1 lost)....6 doe/1 buck here. Yeah, the boy is bottled. Only the spotted doe is full Boer, others are dairy girls bred to Boer. Now, I normally keep all girls to see grow out before sell/retain and the boys go younger, feed $. I love the ratio so far but I'm gonna be honest, this is looking costly so far
So did the FF not take the buck baby? Will she stay since she did not mother up ? Is she a boer or a dairy? If dairy, will you milk her and then see how she does another time? Are you now milking all the rest or are the kids getting all the milk for now?
She had a hard delivery. Won't nurse him. I'll sell her. She's dairy...half wild, my fault. He'll be sold in couple months.
Right now, kids are mom raised. I will milk the Saanen girls, milk share, wean and milk them thru several months. I can't devote time to pull at birth and bottle as long as I'm working. Just too much, too many, too long. . Not ideal but works.
Sorry she wouldn't take the boy kid... yeah, he looks like a charmer too... wrapped around your legs...
Love the odd "roan spots" on the one kid...Very different...
Thanks. She's certainly "different". Her sister was actually marked better, stunningly so
So two of them have markings not showing in photos I've been able to get....first day outside and flying torpedos. Then they nurse and crash into piles.
A black doe in early labor -- we'll see what's comes out
Note: early fall I posted the buck didn't seem to be actually doing the job....he wasn't completing the mount when I saw him romancing . Apparently he was a tired night lover!! Cause this has been a BUSY week!
