Well, I got a baby girl when she was 4 months old, about 4 months ago. I did notice she was getting fatter, but I have no males and did not think anyone would be irresponsible enough to let a baby mate, but the mom came through, labor was perfect, the placenta took forever to come out and as a nurse-midwife, it took all the strength I had not to inject her with oxytocin, but I did not know the dose, so I let it be, leaving 200 messages for the vet but 4 hours later, it came out and she ate it up with no complications
The issue it that the little mama has no idea what happened and doesn't know how to care for the baby. She just butts her and ignores her, so we are taking care of her. Well, my mom has adopted her... Lol.
The mother has moved on with life acting like nothing has changed/happened. She is still smaller then my other goats (they are normal sized, mixed breeds). The little lady is 4 days old now. We are milking mom and giving her from a bottle (a baby bottle because they don't sell goat bottles here at all) and she is taking it 4-5 times a day around 4-7 oz at each feeding. She was born about the size of a size 7 women's shoe and we syringe fed her for about 32 hours because she would not suck at first. She walked at 2 days, and now she is trying to jump and running. She has made friends with the rabbits and dogs.
The one veteran mama goat that I have acts interested in her when she makes sad noises, like when we walk into the house, but I don't know if I can attempt an "adoption." We had her inside for the first 72 hours, but now she is outside on some hay and wood chips, protected on all sides and above. We take her out several times a day to play and interact and feed her. She has yellow, liquid stool that gets stuck to her booty and we have to clean it off every day because it hardens and covers the whole area. Is that normal? My dog tries to lick it off of her, I imagine the mother would normally clean that. I am attaching a picture just cuz she's so cute! This was when she was about an hour old
