So, I am off from work tomorrow, and the weather looks dry. 🌞

Hoop Coop Options
1. Put HWC over main areas
2. Wirebrush the tin roof
3. Dismantle (attempt) metal shed
4. Build door frame

5. Read a book (just kidding!)

A Couple Thoughts
1. If the tin roof comes off in one piece I could use it as is, just patch it
2. If the shed panels can be dismantled I might be able to use them for the hoop coop back wall

The official verdict is in. After 2 days of wind and 4 inches of rain, the craptastic coop I built does get wet inside. The day I pick up chicks will be 24 degrees with a high of 45, the following days not much better, plus rain.

No problem.

I have several HUGE blue tarps from covering my roof when I roofed my house. I’ll get one out, it will totally cover the whole coop, and drop cinder blocks on it to hold it down.

Front porch light has been dangling by the wires. Got a new one yesterday, a neighbor put it up for me. I can take light bulb out and screw in an outlet thingy, plug in outdoor extension cord, run it over to the coop, plug in a 3-way plug, plug in auto drop lights with heat lamps, should be fine.

Or I can just put the durned things in the garden tub and tell ‘em to stay out of the toilet, it’s not their private swimming pool.

Bennett and Peggy gave me 3 plastic barrels with tops. Sweet! I rolled them over to the water faucet this morning and cleaned them up. First I rinsed them and got the sludge out. Then I used Dawn, having a reaction to that now☹️. My mouth, lips, tongue and sometimes face and throat tingle like your foot does when it goes to sleep. That 10,000 needles and pins feeling. But I was outside, wind blowing fumes away, so not so bad. I used a brand new O’Cedar mop. Of course I did, WHY would I use it in the house????

I rinsed mop and barrels. Poured in Clorox, added a little water, used mop to scrub inside the barrels. Dumped it out and rinsed twice. Rinsed mop, it’s in the deep sink in utility room now.

Barrels are on front porch, upside down to drain and hopefully dry.

Say hello to my new chicken feed barrels, and storage for supplies!

Never, EVER use Dawn/dishwashing liquid with bleach! I found out about 40 years ago while cleaning out a trash can. I poured some bleach in the bottom, then squeezed some DW liquid on top...a chemical cloud billowed out but I was able to drag the can outside before I was injured. When I called the company (Ajax? Dawn?) I was told that dishwashing liquids contain ammonia though it doesn't say it on the label. I suggested they add it to the label.

I finally got my tushie outside, even though it was very chilly...it didn't quite make it to 50° but I wanted to get something done.

Look what I found! I think it was in Ron's stuff:

I soaked the screws. Some came out, one I had to cut around with tin snips.

Wall removed

Attached the wall to a 2x4x8' PT board.

But the screws stuck out and the metal wasn't securely attached.

So I removed the long 3" screws one at a time, replacing them with 1 1/2" screws and fender washers. I attached those through the opposite side, using the holes the 3" screws made.

I attached the 2x4 to the base, using 3" screws diagonally.

It's a little short, and doesn't quite cover to the sides at the bottom, SO I am thinking of putting in a couple supports, maybe 4x4 sections (pillars), then raising the wall up on top of the supports so it reaches the top of the arch. The bottom can be covered with HWC, extending into the apron.

I didn’t mix them. First one, fully rinsed out, then the other.
