So sorry for your loss. They were beautiful does. If they refused to pay your bill, you may sue them in small claim court...rather than hiring an attorney. I hope they know they are wrong and just pay up. :hugs
Thanks. That would make my life so much simpler at this point...

quiltnchick,

I am so sorry to hear of this loss and horrific event. I know that as a lover of animals it is an all around sad story. No glory coming from killing someone elses pet. It doesn't bring yours back. They had to be killed of course to protect your remainning herd. I hope that in time you will be able to enjoy your farm again as you should be able to. Whether that farm or a new one. :hugs

Thank you so much for your kind words. I'm trying to get the issue resolved, but the owner is not cooperating at this point.

That's a shame...
She insists I've ruined her reputation by going to the news and, as such, is demanding restitution AND that we buy her a new dog. She also wants me to recant my story - NOT happening!
Oye, this is turning into more of a nightmare. While any judge will laugh her sorry"donkey" out of their courtroom, any court and legal fees may be a pain on you until you can get her to cough those up. I don't know much about the court system, but doesn't the 'loser' cover courtroom costs?

Anyone with connected brain cells who hears the facts (and especially if they hear some of the ludicrous things she is saying in response) will know she has something terribly wrong. I almost feel sorry for her---what kind of sadness she must have had in her life to think the way she does. I said almost sorry though, because at some point, the sorrows we endure and the way we chose to respond to them is usually a choice. Most people can choose to love others instead of loathe, support instead of discourage, seek help instead of dwelling in self-pity, despite the bad hands they are dealt. There is no excuse here for her failure to contain her animals, spiteful reaction to the logical result of her neglect, or her retaliation and further emotional stressing of your family. It is equally disgusting that she has supporters. Birds of a feather, I suppose. Or maybe some kind of reptile might be a more appropriate comparative critter.

Yes, she would be responsible for attorney's fees, which is why it would benefit her to just pay for the loss and vet bill and be done with it.
