Very nice trio....Throw a boer doeling in the mix and have some Boki by next year. I will be going to: http://creamofcropkikos.com/index.htm in October to look for something to add to my herd. I see the breeder of your buck will be selling some animals at the auction , as well as , some of the other "high powered" breeders....Hope I have enough money...
whatever you name them I would ask the breeder if you can use his tattoo letters as a prefix. For example: One of my goats would be DBVwhateveryoulike...This way your buck can be recognized as from his stock. I'm sure he will let you use them, he may have already written them on the application, as I always do....

I think it would be AFK as a herd prefix....by looking at the sale bill anyway. Some of the animals that he will be selling are advertised as kin to the stock that won in ME.....I think you got yourself a couple of good goats

Just out of curiosity since I've never been to a sale like that... How much money does one need to bring?

I know the market for my Nubians around here but I'm clueless when it comes to meat goats.

Maybe in a couple years I'll have Nuki's.. heh.

A sale like the "Cream of the Crop" sale........ Lots and lots of money. Think starting prices on bucks in the $400-$800 range and does at $250-$400. That is starting, will most likely go higher.

You can get good market stock for less than that, if you look around.

Oh that's less than I was expecting actually. Hmmm....

No No No... More land first. THEN more goats. ;)

The doeling at the bottom reminds me of our Cremella horse. Her name is Sierra.
Very pretty. Congratulations.

Thanks, we got a really good deal on them.

Have you seen the research comming out of Tennesse? They compared Kikos, Spanish and Boers and crosses of all three in both directions. Statistically, for goats raised on a primarily forage based system, kids out of kiko does by boer bucks are the fastest growing. The same research shows kiko mommas have the highest weaning rates.

I am going to use that kiko buck on my best does to make replacement breeding stock.

I was one of the first to jump on the Kiko bandwagon a few years ago, based on Forage Test results out of all states...unfortunately, because nobody else was 'on the wagon' with me...I couldn't sell the kids as well because they weren't 'white w/ a red head' and at our county fair, that's what wins.

I've been looking forward to the day when hardy goats were more important than 'show wins'...

As more people burn themselves out w/ dewormer overload / overuse / etc....I'm hoping truly intelligent goat people will stick with it and breed BETTER goats, not just pretty ones.
