Welcome from the Tyler area. My husband and I just moved here to be closer to our grand daughters (7 miles) and we bought a place with 8 acres. We are in the process of building infrastructure, fencing with non-climb horse wire.

I knew a Quarles several years back. Approximately where are you? We had a furniture store in Livingston and a very nice lady with the last name of Quarles was our customer. Is that you???

That wood is going to be simply gorgeous! Best of luck with the home build, and don't be shy about posting pics for us all to drool over!

Thank you.... our biggest thing is finding animals we can use for resources. I want a milk cow too, but hubby doesn't like fresh milk (not sure why, it's my favorite!) but want to make cheese, butter and soap as well. Do you use your sheep for food or anything else?
This will be my second year of having lambs processed (5 lambs this year out of 3 ewes). I've also got lots of wool to sort through, next year will be my first time at a fiber show, selling fleeces and roving. And yes, I have milked my sheep too :)
In general, you don't get as much as you do from a decent milking goat, and you don't milk for as long a time period (I milked for about 14 weeks, only stopping due to lack of enough daylight before work to milk - my guess is a 6 or 7 month lactation length would be possible with my girls). But the milk is really good, and I've made cheese, fudge, and soap (among other things). I will make more soap to sell. There's a thread about my milking experiences on here somewhere... ah, here is:

It's a bit long, but good for some laughs :)

We live in Gary, near Carthage now. But my ex-mother in law could very well have been your customer :) She was from Diboll/Lufkin.

Wait until you see the black hickory we have to cut down! It's huge and gorgeous.... will be the majority of our wood flooring.

Oh jeeeze.... I'm feeling envy coming on... Can't even imagine what you'd be paying for that at a big box store...
