New to the site and new to raising calves/cattle. I've always been around houses and cows but just recently got the urge to start raising them for a little extra income. I figured I want to start out with beef cattle and maybe get a dairy cow for our family. Any thoughts or tips will be helpful

:frow Welcome to BYH Sbreen! I have sheep, but no cattle. Grew up on a cattle farm, but that was a long time ago, no tips or advice...just a warm welcome :)

You picked a time to enter, when beef market prices are at or near an all time high. I've seen 300-400 lb calves go for over $3.00/lb at sale barns recently. Hard to make $ when buy in is this high, but if your input costs are very low while you have them, and don't lose any, you can do ok assuming prices hold or go /\

We'll I think I might have an upper hand on cost. Being that I will have a place that adjoins my residents to keep them for no charge and free hay and possibly be able to have access to the bull already on site. So my cost should be lower that most others at this time
