Since you don't intend to breed them, and stated you wanted pets and weed control, I would recommend that you get wethers (neutered bucks) as they can be very friendly, don't get stinky (intact males go into rut and get VERY stinky), no need to worry about unwanted/unplanned pregnancies, Most don't feed their mature wethers any grain at all... just hay and whatever they can browse up, & they will eat to yours and their hearts content. Just as an aside, goats are primarily browsers, not grazers... they like bark, leaves, twigs, young branches and shoots, especially from your preferred decorative plantings such as young fruit trees and the like, and some decorative plants can be very poisonous to goats:(http://poisonousplants.ansci.cornell.edu/goatlist.html)

Most keep hay available 24/7 for their goats. How much they'll need or eat depends on what's available to them while out in their paddock/pasture area. The more bushy/brushy/shrubs/weeds and young tree growth they have available, the less hay they'll need. If it's grass clipping you're interested in, perhaps a few sheep as they are grazers first, browsers second. Hope you'll share some pics when this finally happens for you!

Since you sound like you don't want any big goats I would get minis. And defiantly wethers. I have a mini nubian wether (He is just a pet) He is just over 80 pounds. I also had a mini Alpine and she was about 90 pounds.

I have 3 ND's and two Nubians. Love them all but the Nubian wethers are the funniest to watch. The ND doe is the most tame, but she is/was a bottle baby.
