Welcome to BYH. Sorry about the chickens and the bear. We have bears here but they haven't bothered us. I think my LGDs make enough noise that they just find easier food elsewhere. I raise bees too so I am happy that the bears have left me alone.

Greetings and welcome! Many here came from and are still on BYC. So sorry about the bear damage to the coop and any loss of animals. Nice pictures of the deer. Too bad it's not the season to put one (or more) in the freezer... Make yourself at home and have no fear... stay here long enough and barnyard critters will just start materializing on your homestead ;) Chicken isn't the only kind of "math"... in case you weren't aware...

Holy cow, a bear got into your coop? :( How many chickens did it kill? :hugs

yep, thats pretty much the side of my barn, about 12' from my horse's corral where she sleeps at night

ETA: oops didnt answer you Q, it killed my call drake and both roosters, 2 hens. i think thats it

I don't want to talk about bears. I lost a lot of feed to bears last year. Fortunately no animals though. Our neighbors had a mini horse killed by a bear several years ago. I don't like bears.
i dont like bears, at all, i am hoping the horse will be safe if something were to happen to her the NH fish n game would be getting the bill, they told us there was nothing they could do

No bears here but they are in other parts of our state. Hope you can recover from the damage soon.
its all fixed now, and added electric and moved my solar lights around

Welcome from Ohio! My first horse was a Morgan.
Sorry to hear about the loss of your chickens :(
thanks and i love my sweet little morgan

Oh goodness that's terrible about the bear
I'M HERE!!! lol, and yes bears are hated by many animal keepers here

Fish and Game here said if a bear takes out livestock we're free to shoot it. Or they'll come trap it for you, which is a giant pain. They're short staffed statewide too.

they advised us that they will only do something if we are a profit-farm and it is destroying our profit, if they are just our 'pets' they dont care

they told us if we shoot it they will press charges and we will go to jail
