Hi there. Found this site through Backyardchickens forum, where I have the same name as here. My husband, my elderly mom and myself just moved into a house on 6.5 acres in Tyler, TX. The land is just about perfect for all our homesteading needs. Some foresty areas, a pond (which needs to be fixed) and good amount of pasture. We're just starting with two chickens right now, but eventually hope to have about 10 chickens and a small herd of sheep, maybe some goats or a pig. Not sure where our animal raising will go, but we'd like to keep them as easy as possible. We're both 50, so we're not as agile as we used to be. We also have plans to have a nice sized garden where we grow our own food. The animals we want to have will have multiple purposes, including for meat. My husband is a little more squeamish about the "processing" of animals than I am. So I'm planning on getting a butcher for any larger animals that I can't handle myself. Anyway, I'm here to learn as much as I can!

Well hello neighbor! My husband and I are outside of Lindale. We are on 8 acres, have 8 laying hens, and 7 pullets. Also 3 feeder pigs that go to slaughter in August. 3 horses, 5 Livestock Guard Dogs and let’s see.....1Katahdin ram, 6 ewes, 7 ewe lambs, and 2 ram lambs. Plus 23 Cornish Cross chickens that are ready for slaughter, but grandkids and daughter coming so maybe week after next.
Welcome to the forum, so happy you are here!

Thank you! I'm excited to be here too! It's nice to see someone nearby here!

@Finnie I'm excited to see how it develops too!! I'm so anxious to get started, but trying not to push my self too hard at the moment.

Just don’t try to do it all at once. Summer is coming, we go out early in the mornings, work until 11 or so, then go in and love our air conditioner! LOL Take your time, it will let you think things through to see what’s going to work the best.
