Hi there. Found this site through Backyardchickens forum, where I have the same name as here. My husband, my elderly mom and myself just moved into a house on 6.5 acres in Tyler, TX. The land is just about perfect for all our homesteading needs. Some foresty areas, a pond (which needs to be fixed) and good amount of pasture. We're just starting with two chickens right now, but eventually hope to have about 10 chickens and a small herd of sheep, maybe some goats or a pig. Not sure where our animal raising will go, but we'd like to keep them as easy as possible. We're both 50, so we're not as agile as we used to be. We also have plans to have a nice sized garden where we grow our own food. The animals we want to have will have multiple purposes, including for meat. My husband is a little more squeamish about the "processing" of animals than I am. So I'm planning on getting a butcher for any larger animals that I can't handle myself. Anyway, I'm here to learn as much as I can!
