Yes, my hive has 2 deeps on it.

I've done reading and many beekeepers say that starvation and mites are the 2 main reasons hives don't make it through winter. I lost my first set of bees over their first winter, and after talking with a beekeeper, he said it sounded like mites. This hive was replaced, treated for mites, and now they are doing well.

I tried to buy Apiguard last night and I have to supply them with a registration number from the state or county. Isn't happening so looking for another option.

Strange. I didn't have to do that, but I ordered mine from Dadant and they shipped it. Have you tried ordering it from Mann Lake? They are in Woodland, so it should get to you quickly.

It was Dadant that I tried and it was on their website that said that if I was in CA I had to supply a number.
California requires a Grower's ID that is issued by the Agriculture Commissioner. It does not require any testing by the individual. It is available to everyone. Please include it in the comments with your order.

If I wanted Apistan from Dadant I had to supply a pesticide applicators license number.

I ordered from Betterbee, I tried Mann Lake but didn't see it on their site.

Hmmm, that must be new. I bought mine last year without any issues.

Yeah, I don't remember seeing it in the catalog when I looked at mite treatment so probably new...Yeah for CA

we put the frames with the unfinished honey in the center of the hive super when we replaces all the frames... they'll usually work from the center out.

Thanks, that is what I plan to do. Right now, they are stored in the freezer.

Thanks for sharing Chooks. That looked awesome and I hope for the same results from my 1st hives this coming spring. Just curious about where you borrowed the centrifuge from... are you a member of a club who has one or a neighbor/friend? I guess I'll figure all of that out here when I get to that point I'll be attending a class soon and joining the state Assoc. & local beekeeper's club so should develop some friends/contacts/mentors. Right now I'm feeling like a kid waiting for Christmas
