Oh, how old is your pig? He looks to be about the same size as my piglets that will be 3 mos. tomorrow.

I took metal tags out of the ears of some goats that came from a sale barn. Had to use 1 pair of wire snips and 1 pair of pliers-----you have to hold the animla still and carefully pull the tag open. That way you don't rip the animals ear.
That's going to be soooo hard...lol.

Ear Tags in pigs are SUCH a pain. They get caught in so many things. That is why we ear notch here. I have seen too much blood & ripped ears to ever want to put ear tags in pigs. Of course we have the Large Blacks with the long floppy ears so ear tags are even worse in them!

I have never seen mange in a pig but it seems that the PB's are more susceptible as I have read about several incidences? For folks out there purchasing pigs for the first time, please do not your research on the farm you are purchasing from. Lice is common in pigs BUT if breeders worm at weaning with a good wormer then that will also get rid of the lice. Ask the breeder if they worm. If they say "No" then ask them why not! Check out your pigs before you load/pay them. If you don't like the look of them walk away. Do not purchase unhealthy stock - there are plenty of good conscientious breeders out there.

Injectible wormer (for eg Dectomax) is so simple to administer - there is never any excuse to sell a worm ridden, lice infested pig.
