yep, 'therapeutic' use of all kinds of things, and not just with dewormers.
I've said it before.....a great deal of what we do is less about the animal and more about making ourselves feel good.......feel that we've 'done something' to help even when there was no problem to begin with.

guilty myself at times.......
Against my better judgment and mostly to placate my overly sensitive wife, I built two 32'x22' loafing sheds here so the cattle would have somewhere to get out of the weather.
I knew dang well they would rarely, if ever use either one and they haven't....maybe a couple times in the last 5 years and then only in freezing drizzle. They're born with a hair covered leather coat, and they don't care if it's 105° or 25°, they're going to be outside 99% of the time.
"Dumb cows" my wife says......

I hear ya! Problem with goats is so few goat vets. Selenium for most is a necessity yet unskilled vets that treat goats always say the minerals should be enough. Goats can be difficult that is why more people rely on skilled goat people and there are so many goat forums. :/

I got a laugh out of the shelter thing. We hear this a lot.... "so and so neighbor has no shelter for the cows, they are out in the rain, and snow"... I laugh because having goats that think they will die without shelter (not our Kikos) it would seem strange. Fortunately I lurk in cattle forums and learned otherwise. I like cattle, alot! I don't know anything about them in any real sense but I like them! I don't want any but I am fascinated by them! Just too big for me. I think they are amazing animals.

They sure can be- especially when people buy from those who toss em out the door with no info.
Selling 8 week old male/female Nigerians together and say "sure they can stay together"
Or buy unprepared- I still can't get over those people that showed up at your place with boxes!
I can picture you, I can picture the look on your face... that pissed off half smile that says are you a %^^$^$!

I feed pumpkin seeds to my chickens and rabbits as a worm preventative and have never had a problems with worms. I don't know if they would work to deworm goats or pigs. I know this thread is kinda old, but the question deserves an answer and I am curious as to what that answer will be, so I am bumping it back up to the top of the list.

Someone I know put on FB that she solved her dogs skin problems with only 2 applications of Neem Oil. Humans can use it too she said.
She said the "only" downside to Neem Oil is the smell.
Hmmmm
I've heard of a few other potential downsides.
