Mallie (Shetland) is in labor! She was grumpy all day yesterday, her udder had filled out, and her sides were hollowed out. I didn’t sleep well last night so I checked her (via the new cameras!) several times and she was restless all night.

She’s chased everyone out of the stall and is up and down with a little bit of pushing. I’ve been holding out on going to do chores to let her settle in, but I’ll have to go out soon.

Single spotty katmoget ram. Bummed about there only being one and it being a boy, but he sure is pretty and he was up and nursing in minutes.

She practically had him in my lap! She left the nest she had dug on the other side of the stall to lay next to me. Conveniently with her butt near me so I could help her out. He was almost 8lbs which is pretty large for a Shetland.

Dang lamb is already giving me heart attacks. I’m at work and I checked the cameras a little while ago. The lamb was not in the stall with his mother (who was yelling for him) and I could find him on he other camera. I called my sister and sent her out to look for him.

She finally found him with Oskar in the ram field. He had found the ONE spot where he could squeeze through. I’m not sure how long he was over there, but Oskar did ok with him. No damage, only some slobber.

Lamb is back taking a nap with mom.

No lambs yet, but I finally did something that I’ve been wanting to get set up for years.

I got cameras out in the barn! I’m not overly worried about lambing issues, but I work 2nd shift so I’m at work or asleep during prime lambing hours. Now I can spy on the sheep while I’m at work. That way, if there is an issue, I can get someone to help.

I got 2 WYZE pan V3 cameras. They pan and tilt so between the 2 cameras, I can see all of the pen except 1 tiny corner by the gate.

Very cool! We’ve got Blink cameras in and around the barn. Battery powered, wifi and I can talk to the sheep - too funny I say Hi Sheepies and they all look up.
